I have 30k that i want to put away in some type of safe investment that will earn me a modest return with no risk of losing money. I want to put the money away for 15-25 years. I also want the best investment that will cost me the least amount in taxes at the end.
Do you guys have any suggestions because i really dont have any ideas where to put it.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you want no risk of losing money then you are talking basically about buying treasuries or money market. Pays around 5% now give or take. If it's a taxable situation then you could buy muni bond funds. Not sure exactly but probably pays a little under 4%. If it's for 15-25 years then you really should take on some risk and invest in the market. And put some each year in a Roth IRA if you are eligible.

Take the 30k, put it in a money market and every year make the 4k or whatever contribution to a Roth until you cannot anymore..thats the safest and tax free way to handle the situation.

D2 gave the EXACT reply I was going to make.

Wallstreet nice to see you as a linesman. I posted a column about personal banckruptcy in GD. Could you give me you thoughts on filing for it? The pros and the cons and what not. I am really ignorant on the subject. A lot of people are getting really mad for whatever reason.

You know what? My senses were tingling that you have been around a while. I read that post and had some comments.
I can answer here, but tell me who you have been in the past?
As for the responses, sorry but I gotta agree with them to an extent. The reason interest rates are high and the BK rules got changed was because people who got themselves in a hole dont want to undo their mistakes and pay for them.
More though in another post..so who were you before? And welcome...

Thank you for the answers, this investment stuff is out of my league and i knew that i would get some good advice posting here.
I have a full disability pension from my job as a firefighter which will pay me for life, including all the raises guys get on the job now, so really havent been that concerned with investing any money. I tried the stock market a few years ago and lost like 40k, so thats why i just wanted something safe that in 15-25 years will grow.
Thanks again guys

i plead the fifth. nobody exciting. i was never mean to anyone or anything like that. I did give you a nice stock tip that went up pretty good. I can't remember the stock though. You said you had some comments? Where were they? I honestly had no idea other people would have to pay for my shit if I filed for it. I am confused on that one.

My comments were after you answered my Q..which you didnt but thats ok.
People pay for your "shit" by having higher interest rates, ridiculous charges for stupid things..its the way financial institutions pass on risk. When you drop your drawers and run via BK the CONSUMER pays for your debts. Where do you think the debt goes? Do you think the companies who lent you the money just had extra hanging around and its ok if you dont own up to your purchases and decisions?
Of course not.
I think you are playing a bit dumb..trying to stir the pot a bit. You seem quite intelligent to me and this Russia or Costa Rica thing reminds me of somthing another poster would say.
Was the stock you recommended to me PRTL by chance?
When someone bails from their responsibilities, the loss turns to the person who LENT the money and in return the lender passes on those losses to PAYING customers..just like when Walmart has theft, they have to increase prices to offset the losses. Its not a complicated principal.

I really am ignorant to the financial part of it. I never even thought of who or how it gets paid. I say funny shit just to make shit interesting but i am being sincere. That wasn't the stock. My buddy told me about it so I told you about it and it happened to go way up. The only thing I remember is the company was based out of ft lauderdale. If you tell me who the poster i remind you of I will tell you if its me. I just don't feel like getting banned again. Do you know any good sites or anything where I could get info on how to gain employment overseas.

Probably got banned because I got banned 50 other times. Once you get banned you just keep getting banned for being banned before. I don't feel like coming clean really. Hey, so I bought this lot for 100k. Interest only loan for 5 years then a balloon payment. I think i put down 5k plus 3k in closing costs. I am not sure if that 5k counted towards paying off the 100k? If it did then I would now be at 95k. Say if I sold the lot tomorow for 85k. What happens to that 10k difference? Do I just start paying that off in monthly payments? I wonder what my monthly payments for that would be? I have horrendous luck. I buy the thing and boom market crashes like 2 weeks later. i was counting on selling it after a couple years for a nice profit . its was on a proposed golf course. So when the golf course got built it was going to go up in value. Obviously didn't work out so good. So now instead of a profit i have been getting hammered for 500 a month.

How do you know the value of the land has dropped so much, have you talked to a realtor or gone to a investor meeting and looked around?
What about developing it or improving it?
Temporarily the land might drop in value but that size of investment is nothing..serious. You need to look longer term and before buying land you need to be able to PAY for the land.
To answer the question, the closing costs dont go towards anything, but the 5k down does..so your loan is 95k or so,but on your statements each month it should give you a principal balance right?
IO loan for 5 yrs with a balloon is a brutal choice..but thats besides the point I guess.
Get two or three jobs and take care of your responsibility.
Nothing against you but you are an admitted multiple banned user, and I have to cut you loose.
Good luck in the future and no hard feelings.

BUY GOLD ( coins - ignots - whatever )
and bury it in the ground
true, you're not going to get any interest over 15 years
but who knows what the world economy will be like in 15 years
GOLD has always stood the test of time
who knows what's going to be valuable in the future
