Hello All! For the time being, it's regular 'ol mundane racing but Slew doesn't know the difference. So his unbiased opinions for Wednesday are for the following tracks and races:
Belmont - 1,2,4,6,7,8
Arlington - 1,3,4,5
Yes, a light schedule indeed. I recommend this type of day for those new to Slew. Not a lot of data to process and a good way to see how Slew works.
We also have a key horse running:
CURRENT KEY HORSES
Divine Luck - Bel ( 4) GP 12/01/12 # 1
Now Divine Luck placed 7th in her last race on 1/13/2013, a NW1$X affair at a mile on the turf at Gulfstream Park. A few notes on that race.
First, the finish was a blanket finish which included a neck, two noses, two 1/2 lengths and one full length. That is a close 7th. The winner was Inaugurate, who went on to place in the Distaff Turf Stakes at Tampa on 4/6. The second place horse Nayarra, had preceded the 1/13 race with a 2nd in the Stardust Stakes at Aqueduct. She was beaten by Channel Lady, a Slew Key Horse who placed 4th behind Stephanie's Kitten on Derby day in the Distaff Turf Mile, a Grade 2 event. The 3rd place finisher, Kibosh, just ran 2nd to the highly respected Dayatthespa in a stake at Belmont just this past Sunday.
Keep in mind too, that the allowance race at Gulfstream Park contained a money clause (see the $ in the underlined tag above) in the conditions. Because of this, horses that had more than one win were able to enter. Inaugrate had 3 wins and 3 places in 8 lifetime starts. Kibosh had 3 wins and one place in 9 lifetime starts. The 4th place finisher, Lady's Lunar Luck had 4 wins out of 16 lifetime starts. So while the race is identified as an allowance non-winner of one other-than...reading the conditions is crucial in determining which entrants actually exceed the basic conditions of the race.
For Wednesday, Shug has dropped Divine Luck into a straight N2L. All horses have only one win to their credit, typically a much easier spot than the N1X, a condition that may contain permutations which serve to obfuscate the relative values of the horses from the casual handicapper.
In other words, tomorrow it's a level playing field. She cut a 1:10 4/5 6 furlong pace in January which set up the more accomplished closers. We're looking for tomorrow to be a different story.
Enjoy the Wednesday racing...good luck and good 'capping!
