I still want to know what a mendoza fight is

It occurred to me ole nurture1970 might be referring to the fictitious "Mandingo fighting", a construct of provocateurs such as Q Tarantino to revision the evils of slavery meanwhile making some money on a movie.  But no, nurture1970 couldn't be stupid enough to not only refer to a Hollywood hyperbole as evidence, but also call it the wrong name, could he?  THAT would be a special kind of stupid

Did you coin the term "Mendoza fighting" to refer to gladiators fighting in Ancient Rome and after?  Or did you mean "Mandingo fighting"?

Uh no.  In the pursuit of truth you can't just cast away your mistakes once they are revealed.  You must adapt and change your opinion.  You said the slaves in Haiti were forced to fight to the death blah blah blah.  Didn't happen. 

Out of curiosity, and not meaning this as an insult, what is your first language and where do you live? 

I didn't say anything about the movie Django...which means somehow you knew to watch it in regards to Mendoza (Mandingo) fighting...meaning that's where you came up with this whole slaves fought to the death in Haiti spiel.  EXPOSED

The Mendoza Line is referred to in MLB as the batting average of .200, a mark that former shortstop Mario Mendoza always seemed to straddle during his career. A Mendoza "fight" is another animal of which no one has a reasonable explanation.

In cooperation with their former mulatto rivals, blacks ended the Revolution in November 1803 when they decidedly defeated the French army at the Battle of Vertières.^[8]

An independent government was created in Haiti, but the country's society remained deeply affected by patterns established under French colonial rule. Since many planters had provided for the mixed-race children they had by African women, by giving them education and (for males) training and entrée into the French military, the mulatto descendants who along with the wealthy freedmen had been orchestrators of the revolution became the elite of Haitian society after the war's end. Many of them had used their social capital to acquire wealth, and some already owned land. Some had identified more with the French colonists than the slaves.

Mulatto domination of politics and economics after the revolution created another two-caste society, as most Haitians were rural subsistence farmers.<sup>[12]

Then there is the issue of what was the revolution about.  While slavery was of course part of it, much of it was about the have nots vs. the haves:


The Haitian Revolution was a revolution ignited from below, by the underrepresented majority of the population.[31] A huge majority of the supporters of the Haitian revolution were slaves and freed Africans that were treated unequally by society and the law.[32]

The participation of so many freed Africans in the revolution supports the assertion that much of the revolution was about hatred for a social caste system and a general hatred of the whites who were above them in that system.

Now lisp2003, how about you cite sources that black slaves did not outnumber whites 10 to 1, or that mulattoes did not play a crucial role in the revolution?  Or are you honorable enough to admit when you're wrong and adjust your opinions of historical events accordingly like a reasonable, logical being?</sup>
