When the SHTF....what goes into your survival bag?

while the east coast reflects on recent earthquakes and now awaits Irene, im here watching Ancient Aliens on history channel. so all this got me thinking....
what should be on my list     

When it comes down to bare necessities, list the things you MUST have in your backpack. only in your backpack.

top of my head...

flashlight/battery
canteen
1st aide kit
leatherman tool
axe
rambo knife
9mm
bic lighter
toothpaste/brush
soap bar
waterproof pouch
bandana/towel
gloves
hat
shades
chap-stick
map
compass
can opener
tin cup
rope

i think that will do.....should i add a sleeping bag

it looks like a lot but most the items are small, no? i dont know, this sour got me wrecked...

you also need rolling papers or a piece of some sort...  If worst came to worst a dugout and bat would never fail... papers get wet, glass breaks, plastic melts..

 throw in a couple bags of jerkey and some doritos.... the munchies are a MF ...

if shit really hit the fan...here are my thoughts on your items

flashlight/battery - yes grab an LED light if possible
canteen - yes or something to hold water
1st aide kit - yes, make sure it includes blister protection for feet
leatherman tool - yes
axe - too big to carry, probably not worth the extra weight
rambo knife - not necessary if you bring the leatherman
9mm - if shit hits the fan people will get desperate...need to keep them from getting your shit
bic lighter - waterproof matches are a must
toothpaste/brush - hygiene is not just for yourself but for others as well 
soap bar - see above
waterproof pouch - more importantly a waterproof cover for your entire pack
bandana/towel - always useful
gloves - not necessary as you can improvise with other clothes, but can't hurt
hat - yes for sun protection
shades - see above
chap-stick - lump it in with other hygiene items
map - only if you have a specific destination in mind, other wise you can't possibly plan ahead enough to bring every possible map
compass - yep
can opener - not necessary at all if you have the leatherman
tin cup - is this your idea for heating food? something to cook in is a must!
rope - yes

should i add a sleeping bag - hell yes! this is a must, at the very minimum it will keep you warm at night.

other items needed:
walking boots - if your in running shoes you will blister after a while 
clothes - need a change of durable clothes to keep you warm and dry, include rain gear
plastic cup and spoon - for eating all meals, lightweight and easy to clean

Why exactly would you need a compass? I assume you will be at home when disaster strikes, not on a nature hike.
