When a Buyer Lies on Ebay

Question

I sold a few things on Ebay recently and one item happened to be my girlfriend's Michael Kors purse. She didn't want the thing anymore and I did the gentlemen-like thing and even paid the fees for her!

Purse, which is listed as used condition but good shape in the ad (WITH NO DUST BAG INCLUDED) was sold for 122 bucks.

One week later (Friday) I received negative feedback from buyer who wrote in the feedback "He never gave me a dust bag and medallion scratched. Awful seller."

Today I got a message from ebay that said they side with the buyer regardless of dust bag due to scratched medallion and that the money had already been refunded.

So now does this mean this person keeps the purse and the money??????? Is this a scam run on ebay?????

Yeah Ebay sides with the buyer now...sellers are considered trash.No they should ship back the purse to you. Its almost not worth selling on Ebay since they dont care about sellers at all.

I had a similar experience selling a little animal sculpture. I said in the ad "photo is actual size" and it was and the moron who bought it complained it was smaller than they thought and got the money refunded. That was my last eBay effort. Stay away.

I sold a bunch of snowboard stuff on there a year or so ago. Also my kid has me sell his video games. Man the fees they charge are ridiculous. I only buy now.

The fees are steep, but I still say ebay is the greatest thing the internet has given us.  I do all of my shopping on ebay - including my last couple vehicles!

Was there communication between buyer and seller before negative feedback or dispute resolution? Given the opportunity, skilled sellers can negotiate to fix problem before further escalation. For example, offering refund for returned item. Generally, majority of ebay transactions are trouble free. Even outside of ebay, laws tend to regulate sellers more than buyers.

never had a problem with eBay as a buyer or seller, there should have been a "case" opened first of all and then negotiation between buyer and seller before eBay gets involved, sorry don't go with your version of events

That is true about the time frame to respond back and forth, but the issue is that sellers are not important to Ebay anymore. I've had an account with them for over 15 yrs and for sure the last 3-4 yrs they are changing focus and sellers are at the mercy of Ebay and buyers because of the rating system.

Buyers CAN give negative feedback for no reason and that is just how it goes..it takes I forget but 3 months or more to drop off feedback from your rating, so a ding or two from someone who is being difficult really damages your score and Ebay does not change ratings, once it hits you are stuck.

It used to be more balanced, but now it really seems that anything goes for a buyer and Ebay will side with a buyer every single time even when like in this case, the seller did nothing wrong and the listing clearly stated reasonable language.
