Zero leverage for these girls, it is a poorly attended event to begin with. Mens world championship brings in far more revenue than the womens team. The gate from two marquee mens gms will exceed that of the entire womens tourney.

You want to get paid well for playing hockey spend decades building a brand, dont just buy equipment and demand equal pay get the fans out to the gms.

    And the fan goes crazy!

I agree.  All comes down to revenue generation.  This feminism sh!t can get out of hand sometimes.

    They got a lot more...

"The players will make around $70,000 each per year and potentially more than $100,000 in Olympic years if they win gold, according two people with knowledge of the agreement who are not authorized to release the numbers told USA TODAY Sports. The women’s team players also secured other benefits — like upgraded airfare and accommodations — that put them on par with their men’s national team counterparts."

A ton of credit goes to the hundreds of women that USA Hockey called to be a scab and who all said no.

A lot of wusses in here about women getting paid more money. How can society survive this conundrum? The FEMINAZIS are taking over! SJWs are ruining the world! Go work out or something. Find something better to be mad about.

Obviously the money was always there to pay these athletes. Men's sports realized this a long time ago and got their fair share of the pie. And I say this not as a liberal but as a conservative who is sick and tired of the money always getting funneled upwards instead of down.

No one's being mad about anything. Bottom line is all about $$$.  You get paid by your worth.  USA olympics is all about advertising/revenue/endorsements etc.. How much $$ does women's hockey generate? They want to be paid six figures yet where is the $$ coming from?
I have no problem women getting what they are worth or think they are worth but the $$$ has to come from somewhere.  Just like how 99% of NCAA athletic departments are in the red because of women's sports and Title X.   If it was not for College Football, Most women's sports will not exist.

Wusses, mad..? Nobody is mad, nobody is saying womens athletics dont have a place. They should not be propped up with cash solely because males are paid more, that is the point here.

Have fun at next pink cat hat march.

That isn't fair...it is only the Power 5 schools where football makes money.  At most of the other schools football loses more money than the rest of the sports combined.  At the University at Buffalo, the students pay 2 million a year in student fees to the football team so it can break even.

Almost all non power 5 football programs are profitable. Can't speak for the lower levels.   Unless u draw less than 15K in attendance than maybe, which is very few. Then there is espn TV $$$... Local TV$$$.. sponsorships/ads @ stadiums etc... it is very hard to not be non profitable in football.   You also have your football donors and boosters.  Football is the driving force in all D1 universities.

Exactly. Some of the expenses incurred by athletic programs are not factored into the real budget, but are the result of charitable (or better said "tax deductible")  donations.

Getty3, while true this is an absurd statement with no context that only demonstrates your foolishness.  There are only 2 competitive teams in women's hockey, Canada and the US.  They have finished 1st and 2nd in every world championship, and every Olympics (except 2006 when the US embarrassingly blew a semi-final game and had to settle for bronze) since the sport's inception.  In fact it has become so uncompetitive, and virtually meaningless between these two teams and the rest of the countries that the IOC has debated removing it from the Olympics based on competitive integrity.  I'm not saying they aren't good in their own right, but context matters if you're going to list off their "championship" stats to try to prove they deserve more money than their worth.

I can believe that. I've seen a LOT of week night MAC games where you could literally count the number of people in the stands...........& I wouldn't call the MAC a horrible conference.

A lot of those games were at my school (Buffalo) and they let students in for free.  Year before last they paid bands to have concerts before the games to try to improve attendance.

And the TV money for the MAC from ESPN was 120K per team a year until they signed a new deal which pays about 600K a year (for all sports).  That doesn't even cover the head coaches salary...

True, but the players in the MAC conference are very well paid.
Trust me, I've watched those games and some players are clearly well compensated

Only a team like Ohio St would pay that much.  And UB has to pay other teams to come to Buffalo.

UB Students and the State had to give UB football over 6 million dollars in 2014 and that was the year they went 8-5 and went to a bowl game.

So they payed 3 teams a total of $6million to come play at Buffalo in out of conference games.  That is simply incorrect.
You dont pay conferance opponents to play.
