He wasn't  a good father. Remember his son killing himself right before the start of the season,, and that the Colts were supposed to win it all a few years ago.

Being a good father means nothing if your son has depression or other emotional issues that weren't treated or were treated improperly.  The greatest parent in the world can't overcome that.

Don't forget, he also was a part of building the Bucs who finally broke through under Gruden.  And he did most of his winning back then with crap QB's. 

P. Manning makes you look good, but it's not just a coincidence he had the success that he did. 

Dungy was never around for his son dope. He was too busy engaged in his coaching career and always away from his son. His son's depressions came worse as he got older because he almost had no father figure around him daily in his younger stages of life which is crucial to any breathing mammal.

Is that a joke?  Belichek went to 4 super bowls, winning 3.  Dungy went to 1 with what most people consider a better qb and a better overall team.  The Patriots also beat the Colts many times when the Colts were expected to win.

I bet you also thought Caldwell was a good coach in his first season when they were 14-0.  Do you still think he is a good coach?

James Dungy was a frequent visitor to the Bucs' practices and games when his dad coached the team.

"He was here all the time, hanging out in the locker room and with the players on the field," fullback Mike Alstott said. "If James wasn't here, it was like: `Where's James?' He was part of this football team.

"It seems like just yesterday when we were all together in Minnesota," Green said in a statement. "I remember James, who was about 6 or 7 at the time, just loved being around the facility and the team and most of all being around his dad."

Jessica James, 18, who described herself as a close friend of James Dungy, said she and a group of friends went to the movies with him Monday night.

"He was cracking jokes, just being himself," she said. "This morning, it was so surreal."

Chris Bonner, a former basketball and football teammate of Dungy's who is a freshman football player at Florida Atlantic University, said he couldn't imagine Dungy taking his own life.

"He didn't seem like he was depressed," Bonner said. "He was an easygoing person. He joked around all the time, and it didn't seem like he had any problems. He was a nice guy to be around. He wasn't a person who boasted about being Tony Dungy's son. In fact, if you didn't ask him, you wouldn't even know Tony Dungy was his dad."

Jamie Gonzalez said Dungy called her this week, and the two made plans to see each other next week.

"I had no idea," she said. "I never have would have thought."

It seems to me that players make the coach in most cases so why you're singling out Dungy we'll never know.
