There is nothing special about "experts"

Ive been betting sports for a few years doing my own research and choosing on my own. I win some and I lose some thats the way it goes. Ive always been curious about the experts and how they get known. Im not sure, but it really feels like these people are just guessing like the rest of us. I bought a subscription off this site by a guy they call "DC dragon" he has had losing days 7 out of the last 8 going 1-5 twice in that span. I blindly followed him and lost 2k and this was me not trusting his picks one of the days and not playing. He simply guesses then takes quotes from players and coaches you can find in yahoo articles. SUCKS. for anyone interested in paying for any expert DONT DO IT, do your own research and your guess will be just as good as theirs.

I'm NOT an expert in any sport but I do well enough in NHL, NFL and MLB to carry my own weight... I once tried Doc's Sports thru thier own site for college and pro basketball and had aweful results also with them. I'm always seeing them crunching numbers and coming up with statements like 10-0 run on Mega-Blaster game of the months plays and crap like that (I made that name up but you know what I'm talking about).

Hell... I'm sure I could pull up some stat saying I'm on a 15-1 run on games on Friday the 13 when on the road and played at night between divisional teams in the first 5 innings of game 2 in a 3 game MLB series that are only shown on ESPN... But to sell it they only post "15-1 Run - Amazing - Get on Board".

Do you get what I'm saying...??? They find some way to make you believe that they are always winning... AND YOU CAN TOO... JUST BUY INTO US.

They sell picks for all sports but only list the so-called "hot runs" that they might be on some how.

I'd really like to see an honest tout that post ALL his records up front... just like opening a newspaper and looking at the standings in any league. W-L-Push - Up - Down - Sides- Totals - etc... Just like some guys do here on Covers in the sports forums. Someone should invent a software that can preprogram league schedules and leave open blocks for you to fill in your wagers made... then it should update inself everyday by automatically checking scores by itself... and make it so that it can't be altered after bets are placed and games are final.

Then we could all see how well we are doing without having to keep lots of records. Some books have great statements but others make it almost impossible to find results that are clear or calculated for you already. The best I have ever seen was WSEX because you can generate very good statements and print them also. That makes them number 1 in my book of ease to use and maintain records that are extermely easy to follow and understand you wagering data.

I don't post stats like that here on Covers because I get lost with all the action I play at multiple sites and record keeping is a headache even though it is important to track what you do good and what you are doing wrong. I'm too spread out and play all kinds of things... too much hassle to track individually.

But a tout selling picks should hide NOTHING and if they do... turn and run.

But we ALL KNOW...That ain't gonna happen captain.

Some experts aren't really experts.  Gamblers should be careful in choosing experts to follow.  When experts are wrong, payment for tips is a extra expense added to stake losses.

Business is Business...

And selling picks is a Business... And when advertising for a any business you always promote what the audience wants to see... In this case a winning record. Which I have total faith is factual.

That being said...

Covers actually goes beyond what is required. Covers does post the record of the Experts. The record is for the last 10 picks which goes back an average of three days. Which in some cases is not all that pretty... And is more than enough for anyone to track every bet from every Expert with ease.

How about doing a little research? I just copied the last ten picks for each Expert into a spreadsheet and after a small bit of analysis. NHL is 83.33% for all experts combined.
MLB totals are 27.27%. Up $427.28 if you had been fading at $100 units.
MLB underdogs are 66.67%. 6-3 Up $462.00 if you bet the underdog picks at $100 units.
MLB Favorites are 46.15% and if you had faded every MLB favorite at $100 units you would be up $1,778.00.

If Covers were hiding anything I would not be able to do the analysis I just did. As far as I know Covers is the only website where you can track the Experts. All the sites I have seen where picks were posted were the free picks and never any kind of a record which Covers does post.

If I were to buy the picks from Covers I would start by tracking all the Experts on a spreadsheet. This way the individual strengths could be assess. Best time to do this would probably be at the beginning of a season. My suggestion would be to look at MLB and NHL sides. NFL is too short and NBA is spreads which are often decided by a point.

If all you had to do was pay $20 and make $1000 a bet - gambling would not exist.

Being an experienced gambler for over 15 years, I can tell you the number #1 issue with gamblers is they do not follow a system or plan.  By that I mean they will go 5-5 out of 10 and lose money where others would actually win money with a 50% success rate.  A lot of people bet because it is on TV or they feel the need to pick a side rather than betting on what they feel is a "value" play.  Some experts over the course of a season should make you money, so jumping in for one week or two you may get a bad few picks..And from what another poster said, the business end is getting people to buy the picks saying they are "monster" plays and such...But if you follow some of these guys for an entire season, I bet they do put you in the black...

The difference between the "experts" and casual gambler is the experts are doing as a business and marketing themselves as such. Maybe they are useful for someone who knows absolutely nothing about sports, but to bet on something you have no clue about is dumb in itself.
