We have all watched thousands of games... NBA, NCAAB or any sport.  We have all listened to thousands of play by play analysts and color analysts

They all praise every single freaking player and coach.  Have you ever heard an analyst on air say "He is not a good player"  or "He is a bad coach" ???

I have never heard that.  If there is a young smart analyst out there that wants to separate them-self from the others I think they should start an honesty tour of analysis.  I think they would work

Only when a player makes a bad play or has a bad game.  Otherwise, it's nothing but praise

I agree that Barkley calls it how he sees it... good answer

But he is not all that relevant in the analyst role... I'm telling you there is a huge vacuum waiting for somebody to take this role

The primary reason nobody will do analysis like this is that they fear losing the reach of the players and coaches.  If they lay down serious criticism, they will not get the access.

I say that if somebody does exactly that, they could make a big name... more than person Vitale or whatever.

the void is waiting for somebody to have some balls.

Only time you really hear this is on defensive backs..."picking on him all night" or "height mismatch" but usually it's just the WR being a faster speed class than the DB.

Just watch almost any Arizona State game from the past season or two.

    I've been watching NBA recently.

Barkley is great. As far as guys who do the game Jeff Van Gundy is my favorite. He's got good insight and no shame. He'll cut in on the play by play guy to go into how stupid a player was. I will watch games he's doing just to hear what he says if I see one that he's doing.

But I have to agree the compliments are over the top. Just my opinion but I think a lot of guys are told to be nice to everyone for their own (and their network's) benefit; so they don't have to spend time apologizing if they offend someone (since everyone is made of glass nowadays).

A couple of realists like Barkley and Van Gundy are okay but can't have too much reality nowadays...

I agree on Vin. He never bad mouthed anyone. He might ramble on for half an inning about how a player grew up barefoot and used a milk carton as a glove before he floated on a intertube from Cuba to get to the US. But he's the best to ever do it
