Im drooling.
Exactly what I am looking for - and I can even go further out to be an hour or so from downtown to get a spot right on a lake.
I might be your neighbor one day.

As I said, my business partner bought some land on a lake and built a "cabin" (more like a house then cabin, but you get the gist) that is 55 miles from my door....so about 65 - 70 from downtown. I'll stay their overnight sometimes (snowmobile for a few hours or have an evening of fishing) and it's 1 hour to work. It's nothing.
You can get into something I'd consider pretty damn nice (with very nice lakeshore) for $500K to $750K.
Here is a listing for a home on Lake Pepin....one + hour from the Twin Cities on the Mississippi....the fall colors are beyond description (my aunt and uncle have a place down there....it's unbelievable)....just to give you a feel:

If you want to spend less then $500K, you'll either give up something in the house or something in the beach front. If you're looking for something more modest (ie. kids gone and don't need as much room), you can definitely buy for $350K to $500K. Of course you can easily spend a million if that's your taste.
There is so much value if you get out of the cities a bit. You'll still pay decent for lake shore, but that's the one area of real estate that is at least holding its own. I don't think you'd be too disappointed with what you saw here. Winters can get a touch long, but you never get cheated on your 4 seasons (and you'll have a tough time finding a better place to experience fall).

Wow. I showed my wife that and she said "buy it and I will go there next week".
I have to get serious about this, we need a change.
Thanks for your help.
