yeah this country is going in the right direction...

    soon to be double-digit unemployment

gas to reach $5.00 a gallon

     taxes out of control

foreclosures rising...again even though the banks were letting defaults live there to pump up the numbers

illegals getting free health care, food and housing...maybe even a drivers license

the outsourcing of america(importing and a creator of nothing...sorta like sheep grazing from on spot to another)

    rome lasted 2000 years plus

this country is a little over 200 years... interior degradation...

Cheney and Bush wrecked this country so much that I don't know if this country will ever be the same.  Obama or Romney, I don't think it really matters which one is in.  I can assure you that they are out for themselves and not for you.

Think they're both bad choices but want a change can't see the reason for staying with the current admin when the last 4 years had nothing done to correct the Bush issues and the dems even had full control the first 2 years and still NOTHING! Last 2 I get the gridlock but didn't do anything the first 2? c'mon.
Unfortunately I do think Obama will win and repubs will still control the house and we'll have 4 more years of NOTHING and 5 trillion more in debt.

I agree it seems like a lock only way I can think Obama loses is if it comes out that he's a pedophile on Nov. 1. Otherwise I think it's pretty safe. Won't be a blow out like last time but at the end of the night obama wins.

Stock Market is all the way back.

Banks are all the way back.

    Autos are largely returning.

    Housing is beginning to recover.

Jobs are what's lacking. That's up to the fantasy "Jobs Creators", not the President.

Obama has my vote. With Rmoney we just slide backwards.

    Nope....

    That statement is a joke.

The economy was collapsing when Obama took office. When Obama took office the Dow Jones was 7,949 and it's currently 13,437.

When Bush became President the Dow was 10,587 just about a 25 percent decline under the last republican president. Not to mention a war with Iraq that killed thousands of young American soldiers and over 100,000 innocent Iraqis. It's estimated that the war in Iraq cost the United Sates $3,000,000,000,000.00.

When Bush took office the unemployment rate was 4.2 percent and when he left office it was 7.7 percent.

what you have is two super rich guys who have never done a lick of public service--military, peace corps, police, firefighting, legal aid (even though both graduated from law school)--absolutely nothing that benefited the country, the downtrodden, or the helpless.

yet they both want to tell everyone else how to run their lives to make the country better.

the blackest and the whitest jokes ever perpetrated on america.

I was no Bush lover by any means, in fact he ranks right up there with the top joki-jokesters as President, but Obama is on a whole other level.

You think cash for clunkers is one of the biggest failures by an American President?

I'll show you examples tomorrow why the last Republican President left an astronomical mess that called for serious spending to make sure country didn't fall into a situation like the Great Depression.

How about also thinking in terms of lives needlessly lost during a Presidents term, instead of just the monetary scoreboard.

I'm pretty sure that $5 trillion doesn't mean much to those that died needlessly and their families.

Also, that link that you posted is 4 years old and it is merely a projection of what someone had assumed the total could be in the future when the reality is that 4 years later, that total is nowhere near what the projection claimed that it would be.

Sorry ... here is their updated article(2010). 3 trillion was too low. LINK

Stiglitz and Bilmes make a few other interesting points...

There is no question that the Iraq war added substantially to the federal debt. This was the first time in American history that the government cut taxes as it went to war. The result: a war completely funded by borrowing.

The Iraq invasion diverted our attention from the Afghan war, now entering its 10th year.

When the United States went to war in Iraq, the price of oil was less than $25 a barrel, and futures markets expected it to remain around that level. With the war, prices started to soar, reaching $140 a barrel by 2008. Not only was Iraqi production interrupted, but the instability the war brought to the Middle East dampened investment in the region. Higher oil prices had a devastating effect on the economy.

The result is that the recession will be longer, output lower, unemployment higher and deficits larger than they would have been absent the war.

4,500 US soldiers were killed in the war in Iraq.

In 2008 the number of orphans in Iraq was estimated at 870,000.

    118,484 civilian deaths.

But the 'shovel ready' and 'cash for clunkers' programs make Obama the biggest joke in American history according to Republicans.
