Umm, the Ayatollah died in 1989. I think you mean it's only been 30 years since the Shah was overthrown and Iran became a fundamentalist state.
Sorry, but Ayatolla Khomeini took over after Shah and the current supreme leader of Iran is Ayatolla Khamene'i. None the less, it's only been 30 years since that regime has been in power and therefore renders the given premise meaningless.

This "expert" on Iran appears to be an idiot. Iran made several incursions (invasions) into Iraq during the 1980's Iran-Iraq war.
