Huge issue that may destroy us all

The recent rapid increase in human population over the past three centuries has raised concerns that the planet may not be able to sustain present or larger numbers of inhabitants. The InterAcademy Panel Statement on Population Growth has stated that many environmental problems, such as rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, global warming, and pollution, are aggravated by the population expansion.^[11] Other problems associated with overpopulation include the increased demand for resources such as fresh water and food, starvation and malnutrition, consumption of natural resources faster than the rate of regeneration (such as fossil fuels), and a deterioration in living conditions. However, some believe that waste and over-consumption, especially by wealthy nations, is putting more strain on the environment than overpopulation.^[12]

Limiting birth rates through legal regulations, educating people about family planning, increasing access to birth control and contraception, and extraterrestrial settlement have been suggested as ways to mitigate overpopulation in the future. China and other nations already have regulations limiting the birth rate, with China using a "one child per family" policy. Contraception is a response to the fact that nearly 40% of pregnancies are unintended and that in the poorest regions mothers often lack information and the means to control the size of their families.

Overpopulation is likely an issue. How about mandatory birth control for mamas on government assistance? Until you get off the gov payroll for at least a year, no more kids that we have to pay for would be a start.

You list the countries you've been to and made an effort to witness the problem first hand - then we have a discussion.

If you want to make the argument the earth is over-populated with too many ignorant people, I would agree with you.  But the earth as a whole can support more people than your biased claim can support.  Perhaps too many resources are controlled or are in the hands of too few people/corporations (apparently they are people too by our laws), but do the math.  Take the amount of sustainable land on earth, divide that by the population (this is the number of people alive), and you might be surprised at the tens of thousands & thousands of square feet of livable self-sustaining land that would be available to each person individually.

As far as people living longer today, if you take the average life expectancy of people in 1900, excluding those that died before the age five (many deaths occurred during birth or to diseases the immune system did not support within the first five years of life), you might be surprised that in that time without rapid cancer and heart-disease, people lived longer at that time then they do today.

Economic growth is part and parcel to population growth.  They go hand in hand.  The rich need an ever increasing slave pool to make all this garbage continue "growing."  Almost everyone buys into it.

Don't forget over-fishing and the amount of plastic in the oceans choking out plankton.  We are royally screwed.

Happlily this is something we need not worry about because unlike goverments,nature always solves these kinds of problems.If something can not go on forever,it DOESN'T..If the earth cannot support a population it doesn't. Is the human species a viable longterm inhabitant of this planet?

"The rich need an ever increasing slave pool".  Exactly.  In a Rotary meeting a couple of years ago we had a couple from The US doing missionary work in Mexico for the last 20 plus years.  They said, the government and the super rich want to keep the women "barefoot and pregnant" with many kids for a large labor pool for cheap labor.  Same thing is happenning here.  There may be revolution in our country sooner than we want to believe.  Like it or not, we are becoming slaves to the elite. 

Almost time for them to drop the bomb then....
