Your first time out, also depends on what time of course you're attempting to play.  Something wide open with less trouble is ideal.


I played my first 18 holes when I was around 8-10yrs old.  Little dinker of a course...maybe a Par 66 or something...and shot 124.

I play all the time with buddies who are trying to get better, always keep correct score.  Keep track of Fairways, Greens & Putts so you know where your game needs work.

Friend who shoots the worst...usually 125-130 shot a 113 off a simple tip "Keep your head up, and hands in front of the ball"  Started to straighten it out...and was 7-10 strokes better on the back 9 due to it.

Here is my prediction...

I played way better than I imagined.  I shot a 105 and that included 3 holes were I duffed it in the water and 4 putted. I only lost 5 balls (one was in the water and I could see it but didn't want to go in after.  I had 3 birdie putts but only made 1.  I also had 4 pars and 5 bogies.

i shot 90 on sunday after back to back rds of 76.... gotta luv this humble bs of golf.

hacked all f'n day. felt like i had a linguini noodle in my hands.  

oh well... linx again soon..

golf is good. i had my beers and my blunts so at least i was self medicated...

Sorry been busy.  Shot 130 on the dot and followed all the rules and penalties.  I could shave 15-20 points off my score by not hitting the ball 5 feet on my second or third shot.  Drove the ball very well landing on the edge of the green on two par 4's ( cut got 5's out of them due to the bad second shot).  Thanks for the input guys can't wait to go next Monday!

Bam, I was right on 125 - 130. At least you are honest. Now that you have been, you know what to expect. A little different from the driving range. Now focus on cutting the strokes down, every stroke counts.

unfortunately i never took advantage of the cheap resources to learn while in the army...that was on my checklist for several years, learning to play...now its moved, pretty far down..im looking into a grad program so time and money for golf will be minimal

you are  hooked now and will be forever enjoy this great but frustrating  game called golf.  with practice you will be shooting mid around 110 very soon.

Tip of the year for the high handicapper:  Putt it from everywhere inside 50 yards when no bunkers or water in your way!!!!

Basketball players shave points. You'll be shaving strokes.

Good job. Try and keep track of how many fairways you hit, distance to the green on your second shot, how many putts, and how long they were. These will help you focus on what you need to improve on. Right now, it's everything. But, soon, you'll figure out if it's your putting or driving. Even the pros have touble doing both of these well. Good Luck
