Finally bought a hand gun.......

..........a Kahr CW9. Not the most expensive (about $410 out the door) or the most impressive, but one that has a decent sized grip & gives me the option to cc if I choose. I've been considering this for a couple years so it's not like I'm reacting to any of the recent shootings. No...........just one night a while ago I was laying in bed watching the news (reporting a break-in & shooting of the residents) & I realized that if that happened to me the only defense I had was a BB bat. I live in a middle-class neighborhood that hasn't had any real issues in the 6+ years I've been here, but many of the break-ins around the greater Seattle area have been in middle to upscale neighborhoods. I'm not worried about my possessions, & I honestly hope I never have to do anything but range shoot it............but I will now have a way to defend myself if some goons decide my place is next.

 Nice little gun btw........ran about 100 rnds (blazer brass) through it & not one failure. Pretty accurate too. I'll definitely need more practice as I hadn't fired a hand gun in over 20 years, but I'm confident I can catch some of a "target" from 25-30 ft. I have no plans to carry it at this time but I'll probably get a ccw permit anyways.

I also have a CCP and although I also don't conceal carry that often it is helpful to have the option. An interesting issue is  how to arm yourself  when considering  it's for home use or to carry. I have a Glock 19 that I keep at home although the gun can be carried I find it way too much for my back but having 19 rounds is very comforting in a home invasion situation.

Nice choice.  Best advice is to range shoot (as you mentioned).  Regular practice is a must, so in the event, your actions are instinctual.  Most gun owners will recommend once a week, or twice a week.  I think for the casual owner to get out and shoot once a month will suffice.  9mm is an excellent caliber, despite some opinions that it does not have the "stopping power" of a 45 ACP.  That is nonsense.  Get yourself a box of good hallow points that you keep loaded in the gun when at home.  A good 9mm hallow point will blow a nice big hole through any bad guy, and you have 8 shots to get it done.  Shoot the cheap FMJ rounds at the range.

bluefin...........some excellent advice. I originally was looking at a Ruger P95 but they were sold out. It would be nice to have 15-16 rnds per clip.......... 7 goes quick. I'll likely buy 2 more clips, 1 loaded with hp's for home. Would also like to get it equipped with night sights. My BIL has a S&W M&P 9mm that has them & they are great for in the dark.

 rickey........all I have to do here is go to my local PD (I'm in city limits) & pay $52, answer some ?'s, & get FP'd.

 sports........ I'm thinking once a week til I get real comfortable with everything.........loading, shooting, breaking it down & cleaning it. I agree with you about 9mm...........I'll bet 99.99% of people would go down when hit with it. I know I wouldn't want to get shot.

I'm agreement... shoot all you want until you feel like its a glove on your hand.  The point being... make sure you continue to range shoot after the newness is all gone.

Congrats Mugg , that's a hell of a great price for a kahr especially considering how the prices got jacked up for new n used guns.

Last time I was looking at guns was around Bristol PA about 2-3 weeks before all the crazy sh1t started goin down n prices n ammo went crazy. The impression i got was u need at least $450 to get a new or used gun n maybe $350 if u want a 22lr pistol (like a used Ruger).

With that said, that sound like an awesome buy. I never would've imagine that that Kahr would be available for a decent price n not sold out right now. Congrats again n enjoy.

 It was on sale at Cabellas for $399............they had 3 in stock but 2 were already reserved for other customers so, essentially, I got the last one. I signed up for a Cabellas cc so I got another $20 off. I was really looking for a Ruger that they had on sale for $369 but they were sold out & wouldn't order or transfer from another store.

 I'm having a tough time getting ammo though..........9mm is constantly sold out around here, except for the expensive shitt that costs $30 for a box of 25.

Good job Mugg.  Nice choice to start with but you'll soon want something with more stopping power.  It's one of those feelings that grows on you.  You'll see.

With how kids are this day. You need to practice shooting your gat from the 9 O'clock to the left parallel position. As you yell "break yo self fool!" unloading the clip into dat azz! Sometimes you have to do things like that to show the wannabe 19year old gangstas what time it is. Ha ha.

LOL........salty, if I ever have to point this thing at anyone I'll be happy if I can just aim straight.

Gotta get and have been wanting to for about a year now. I simply hate the thought of being in a situation where I can't protect my wife or myself if by the slim chance that I need to in the future.

I have the same exact gun.  Like it a lot.  That double action trigger takes some getting used to (I have a Bersa .380 that I am really good with....still working on my accuracy with the CW9), but it's a great CC piece. 

BTW, there are some great videos on youtube....reviews of CW9.....showing how to break down and clean, etc., etc.  

 I read a lot of reviews & watched some of the youtube vids before buying this unit.. I was trying to budget myself at around $500 so this gun & the Ruger P95 were the finalist in my search. By the time I get an extra clip or two, & a cleaning kit, I'll be up to $500.

 I know what you mean about the double action. I shot my BIL's (who also got this Kahr) S&W 9mm & it is much easier to squeeze off a bunch of rounds.

 I have to go through another 100 rounds before it's broken in but I like it so far..............not sure I'm fond of the fact that it doesn't have a safety. I don't think I'd be comfortable walking around with a round chambered, but hell, I just got it. I'm sure the more I use it the more comfortable I'll get with it.

My friend carries a Kahr CW9 and he has no complaints. I’ve shot it a few times and have to say it’s a nice little gun.  Especially for the price.
