 Yes, cloth masks can help reduce the spread of viruses, including the COVID-19 virus. They can act as a barrier to droplets that may contain the virus that are released when talking, coughing, or sneezing. However, the effectiveness of cloth masks may depend on the material of manufacture, the number of layers, proper wearing and timely replacement.
Although cloth masks do not offer as high a level of protection as medical masks, they can still be useful in everyday situations, especially in public places where it is difficult to maintain social distance. It is important to follow the recommendations of health organisations and use masks wisely, combining them with other precautions such as regular hand hygiene and maintaining social distancing.

Using state numbers from World-o-meter. From Sept 1, 2021 to Jan 31st, 2022 several states had continuous mask mandates. Those included New York, Illinois, California, Washington, and Oregon.

From Sept 1 to Jan 31st those five states averaged 10,874 reported positive cases of COVID per 100,000 residents.

The rest of the United States averaged 10,918 reported positive cases for that same period. 44 less cases per 100,000 if you mask up. Less than margin of error. 

If masks were so effective should not the data reveal that? And should not the media and CDC recite and print the data??? 

How many fully vaccinated people died in the US from covid? You know they have the numbers. Why isn't it public?? 

In Minnesota from May 2, 2021 to March 20th, 2022 the Minnesota Health Dept. publicly printed covid deaths by vaccination status weekly. During that period there were 1,989 vaccinated deaths and 2,830 unvaccinated deaths. Minnesota had 50% fully vaxed in late June and was at 78% by March 20th. So yes the vaccine did help. But Biden said on July 21st, 2021, " with regards to Delta you won't even get covid." Yet 41.3% of Minnesota covid deaths were the fully vaccinated during the period they made it public. 

LillyAllison is right.  Masks do work to reduce virus spread.  Problem is that people don't always wear masks properly and consistently despite mask mandate.  Cochrane review editor apologizes for people misinterpreting its finding that effectiveness of masks is inconclusive. Review of 78 studies couldn't reach a firm conclusion because there isn't enough quality studies with high rates of mask wearing.  Of 10 studies that qualify, there is strong evidence that masks do work.  In a pandemic, masks shouldn't be dismissed or demonized because it can help delay infection and avoid lockdown until vaccines become available.

People who profit from the cloth mask industry will claim they are effective.
