Another thought that crosses my mind often is how could one be devoutly Christian and NOT anti-semitic? I mean at least most "other"religions simply have other beliefs. The person flat out deny that Christ is the messiah. That seems like a bigger slap in the face than simply worshipping another prophet.
And finally, Luther in these writings sounds like Ann coulter the day she said that Christians are "perfected person".

I'm pretty sure that if you & I compiled a list of the 100 most influential people who died *before* 1860 (hell, we could go a lot further than that- probably a lot further- James Watson, anyone?), the people on that list would be considered incredibly bigoted, sexist, intolerant asses in today's society.

Martin Luther's anti-semitism is nothing new.
Of course, everyone was basically anti-semitic during Luther's time.
Nobody is perfect.
Maybe fundamentalist Christians are anti-Semetic, but if you are an intelligent Christian, you follow Jesus' message that God cares about everyone no matter what creed or race.
Islam comes from the same roots as Christianity and Judaism. It's because these three religions are so similar and came from the same place that the Middle East is a hornet's nest.

True, and Ahambone's point about pre 1860 is also very true. The Composer Wagner is another good example. Books and "studies" (if you can call them that) on eugenics, social darwinism and anti-semitism dominated the best seller lists in the late 19th century and leading up to the World Wars.
Anti-Semitism was always widespread up until that time and culminated with the development of the Holocaust. But categorizing all these people as Nazi's isn't exactly the best way to look at it, it's narrowing the racism of that era down a little too much. The Nazis weren't the only ultra-racists of the time, read up on Vichy-France's collaboration with the Holocaust. The overall racism of that era helped the Nazis move towards "The Final solution to the Jewish Question".

But failures always need a scapegoat and it just so happens that person were highly skilled laborers and money lenders in the first millennium and a half (initially, Christians and Muslims considered it a sin to charge interest), so envy had something to do with it (actually, this is simplistic, the roots and causes of anti-Semetism are more complex).
