A couple of things come to mind...

An old saying I Love is "strike while the iron is hot". Right now there is a demand for the tickets. You never know what tomorrow will hold. I suggest you take the money you can get. As the old saying goes, "take the money and run..."

I would think that turning the money over and reinvesting it in more tickets would produce a higher income.

    Just my 2 cents...

What tickets do you have so far? performer, place, date

At first thought, I was for sitting on the tickets until the date gets closer, but now I think I agree with rand. Americans, in general, are an immediate gratification people, so I figure you could fetch the highest sum with the "I want them now!" mentality, then reinvest in some other tickets. Nice catch for your first go round! Let us know how far on the plus side you end up.

I've done this for about 5 years, not so much lately as the ticket prices have been steadily increasing to the point where the profit margins on most shows are too tight for me.

At my peak I was making about 1-2k per month, especially in the summer when there are more shows due to the outdoor venues. One Radiohead show at a small venue I made $1600 in 2 days because the demand was so high.

One piece of advice I will tell you is to sell the tickets as soon as you can. Its better to make $300 profit now and not have to sit on them/worry about them later. Its true that sometimes the day of you can make more due to desperation, but you have a good angle with Valentines coming up, try selling them to some dudes trying to impress their girlfriends.

thanks rand, steady, and popo. I will try to make a profit now and use the money to reinvest in other tickets. Great thought on valentines gift.

Rand - I only have 2 tickets in section 100 at verizon center for july 29.

I tried to purchase more today when it opened to the public but had no success.

Sell now, you have an item with an expiration date, it's best to dump them ASAP.

I've been doing this for years..... Sell them now!! Without a doubt. As the date gets closer people start dropping their tickets by a few bucks and the prices continue to drop till the day of the concert, even hours before the concert where $100 tickets will be sold for less than $50, especially if Beyonce is doing multiple shows.
My advice would be to make your price in your section a few bucks better than the rest and put that profit to work.

Stay away from concerts in huge venues like football stadiums. supply and demand.

If you can ever get your hands on One Direction its a winner!! Those you can hold.

    Good luck!

A second show has been added in DC. This hurts a bit but still confident that I can get a premium.

At one time I had season tickets for 5 pro teams in my area and use to sell games individually but gave up since I did not want to shell out the renewal money.

Since then I get presale offers from each venue for all kinds of events. There are MULTIPLE presale passwords depending on WHY you are on that list (i,e. I had season tickets). There are also multiple presale dates (when the tickets are released to your presale group/list). You could have an early date or a later date and that affect what tickets are available to you for that presale.

I also did this for concerts and show but ONLY if I was willing to attend if they did not sell (never happened).

Towards the end of my ticket selling days... I use to wait for special "Auctions" from TicketMaster for "Big Concerts"... shows that I knew would sell instantly.

In the auctions you simply put in ONE bid and if you are a high bidder then you get the best seats based on your bid.

I had tickets for a "Police" concert when they got back together a few years back. Second row, Center Stage and paid $750 each in the auction. I sold them for $1500 EACH.

The best that I ever did with sports were for $150 tickets that sold for my asking price of $600 each.

You have to be able to take a hit which will come if you do this full time.

Stubhub allows for last minute sales and then pickups near the venue which can help avoid losses. You can drop the price towards gametime if it's not selling.

Learn as much as you can before getting to deep into shelling out money for tickets. I just winged it and it worked out OK but I got tired of it all since I was working full time back then.

    Good Luck

Update:  2nd show sold out in minutes.  Cheapest tickets in my section (many rows behind my tickets) are going for $389 per tix.  I'm going to attempt to get $499 per tix and sell them now and if not I may hold them for a bit longer.

Try to see if Swedish House Mafia is playing nr you.  I read in the paper that their concert/party/rave sold out so quickly and was in such high demand they added 4 shows in my area.

Thx - will keep this in mind.  I won't be buying anything until I sell these beyonce tix and continue to build my bankroll.  I'd never even heard of swedish house mafia so this is helpful.

Side note - love that Beyonce is airing her documentary on HBO tonight with a preview with Oprah an hour before.  I really want to sell these tix while she's still buzzing from the superbowl too.

Cool.. guess they're 3 of the top house/techno djs in Europe performing together.  That might make your customer base slightly younger and more limited though.

Don't know if you saw my post on the first page, but I can still try to dig up that presale email/newsletter if you'd like.

bubble gum pop is where its at as well as certain new country acts.

Any concert where everyone wears black with black nail polish suck as these people have no money.

Don't be fooled as not all shows sell out black eyed peas and a few other r and b acts that I thought would do well did not sell out at all Mary J Blige is another one from back in the day.

Sporting events go for the cheap seats as they have the best mark up.  $30 seats selling for $150 is a lot easier to move than $300 seats for $400.

Usually fans just want to be in the building so seat local is no big deal.

    That's just my 2 cents.

I was going to get in to the basics about the economic theory of supply and demand but I have a feeling it might go slightly over your head.

I appreciate your thoughts and even moreso the way you so eloquently voiced them.  Have a good day.

Selling above face value is illegal in alot of states. I would recommend that you investigate the laws of where you are at. However,  you can get a license to be a ticket dealer. If its illegal in your area I would get the license and start a legit website.

The major events are where the money is at. Super Bowl-World Cup- World Series- All Star games- Final Four-etc.  Some of these events have a lottery system that requires you to enter before a certain deadline. You will want to sign-up everyone you know in hopes of getting a shot at these tickets.

Also its best to throw some money to your friends for tickets they acquire for you. Better to have 10 people trying to get front row seats at Beyonce than just you.

Often times its best to get a season ticket package involving championship caliber teams. This gives you a better chance of getting playoff tickets in premieum places ... and thats where the big money is.

I could go on in more detail but thats enough...good luck
