Does anyone else do this?  I decided to give it a try today for the first time. I bought 2 mastercard pre-sale beyonce tix for DC in the lower section (dead center - 100) for face value $253 a tix plus fees that came out to $285/tix.  I'm already seeing tix in my section selling for $365-$700 per.  Tickets open to the public on the 11th.  I'm assuming it will sell out that day or shortly thereafter.

A friend of mine said he's been doing it for a 2 years and only took a loss 1 time and has profited nearly 14k.  It almost seems too easy which makes me nervous.  I'm very confident that I'll be making at least $200/ticket.  I read an article where bieber tix with a face value of $36 were selling for $1,700.

Anyone that can share any insight about potential pitfalls or ways to maximize value---please share.  Thanks.

Years ago on sites like EBay I heard when doing something like that make the sale for something meager and throw in the tickets so you can't get in trouble. Example:

"I have a Bic pen for sale for $250. With that I will throw in Beyone tickets."

Obviously anyone can see through that but there are no laws preventing you from selling crap on EBay. You're giving the tix away for free.

I have been interested in doing this myself, but I haven't done so yet.

I think you will be able to be successful at this if you stick to buying and selling GOOD seats only. Don't buy too many tickets for one event and don't spend your money buying the nosebleed seats.

You have an advantage being able to buy tickets before they go on sale to the general public. How do you get the tickets before the public? Is this a promo or incentive for a particular MasterCard?

Good luck,  and let us know how this turns out.

Some cash to be made if you know what you're doing.............but it's tough because, even with the amex-type presales, the real seats were sold before you ever got a shot........save for ticket auctions which I think are great.
Need an inside line to the best shows in town, not every show in town.

Obviously anyone can see through that but there are no laws preventing you from selling crap on EBay. You're giving the tix away for free.

seems like we should be able to sell things in our possession for cash with out interference...

if not people wouldnt have to go to such lengths

I also paid $2.50 (ebay) for the pre-sale code today that opens at 10am.  This was before I realized that mastercard had a pre-sale yesterday but may see what other tickets are available.

Yes, yesterday - Masterbey was the code.

Today, Dazzle is the code. I think fan club members (who may pay an annual fee) get this code.  I bought mine on ebay for "best offer" $2.50.

Those questioning the legality, I'm not sure how stubhub who has 1000+ tickets above face value for this event stays in business or their sister co ebay. I will use one of the two to sell despite their fees as there are too many potential pitfalls with craigslist.

Exactly Jelax. Congrats on a nice purchase.

dl36 is a seat sniffer, when he can't get more intimate contact with his paramour or some random dude. The rest of the time he just dominates threads with inane banter.

I signed up for the newletters/mailing lists for a couple for local radio stations and that was the code I received last night for today's sale.  AMEX also gives out presale codes for various events

A few years ago, someone posted a site that listed presale codes -- PM me and I'll look it up in my spam acct.

    Will do.

I attempted to purchase additional tix today through the live nation pre-sale and had zero luck finding any tickets. After researching stubhub a bit more and seeing that there's a 15% fee to sell and a 10% buyer premium, I'm thinking a bit more about craigslist but only if the buyer will use paypal.  Ticketmaster allows me to transfer the tix securely so this combo could work while allowing me to maximize value.  I will try to purchase tix one more time one Monday when they are open to the general public and then I will decide how/when I'd like to sell the tickets that I have.

You have to be really careful about the chargeback attempts on Paypal/Craigs.

Scalping is when you resell tickets on the site of the venue.  If you resell them anywhere else it is not scalping and is legal.

I have a friend that has been doing this as a profession for years, that was over 10 years ago and I'm pretty sure he's still doing it.

I think he used to net around 30k a year and he would buy tickets in blocks and season tickets.  He would sell them on Ebay, there is some risk involved but if you can net a nice profit to re invest eventually the losses will just be write offs.

I remember him telling me one time he has to be selective on what he sells.  You'll get screwed on concerts that bring in a lot of teens because they bid then never pay for them.

If you make a few sales I say parlay it and build an income!!  Good luck!

Since my business is seasonal I have been thinking of doing this on the off months for extra money.

    quick update:
Article says, "fans expect show to sell out anywhere from 30 sec to 5 min. Tickets go on sale Monday at 10am, but fans will likely need a timely click and some luck to score a seat".
