Its ashame these things have to happen in todays world. Offshore drilling is the dumbest thing and all those asshole republicans chanting "drill baby drill" I would like to drill a hole in their skulls. America is the only country stupid enough to invade a country with all the oil we need and not even get any of it. At least when China invades a country they do it right. America invades a country, bombs the shit out of them then builds them schools. lol. That is like someone robbing your house, raping your wife, then sticking around to cook you dinner and order some pay per view for you. I would be perfectly fine if we invaded a country and were like we are fucking taking over and taking all of your oil. But we invade a country, then spend trillions of dollars rebuilding it while our country goes to shit. Wtf?

Those bases they are building in Iraq are massive. Don't think for a moment that we will just exit that country without stipulations. They will be in US control. The civil unrest will remain hence US occupation.

And if it doesn't?? Then the US will make sure there is some for their own purposes.

and btw, the oil rig that blew up in the Gulf is putting out 42,000 gallons a day and the area now covers an area approximately the size of Rhode Island or 1,800 square miles...

Even if somehow it doesnt reach shore. I am sure it has already caused a tremendous amount of damage and killed millions of sea life. Not to mention how this will affect the entire Gulf coast fishing industry that relies heavily on that money. I know I will not be wanting to eat anything from the Gulf Coast now after this.

All you guys seem to think we live in "Disneyland" . Drilling , especially deep-water drilling such as this, involves risks. Are you even aware how many oil rigs are off the LA, AL, and MS coasts right now ? There are thousands. So what's the alternative guys ? Shut down any/all offshore oil rigs?

KickinA, you do understand basic economics right. You have less supply out there if you shut down these rigs.... and prices will inevitably go up.

How 'bout we shut them all down , and you can your $5 at the pump, now..... not later.

It's Easy to criticize how bad this is, and the effect it will have once it comes ashore.... but let's look at what energy alternatives we have out there in today's world.

Both at the pump and its trickle down effect to the store shelves, if to stave off increased off shore drilling. I&#x27;m resourceful enough to problem solve and meet my needs until more alternative viable energy is at our disposal.

The reason I say "republicans" is because it seems they all think the exact same way. Whichever way the party thinks is how they think. There are a few exceptions to the rule. As there are, I&#x27;m sure, democrats who are for offshore drilling. I can make my own thoughts and opinions. I don&#x27;t need a political party to tell me how to think. I am against offshore drilling because there are too many risks involved and I do care about our environment. We have one planet to live on so it would be intelligent not to destroy it. I would much rather pay $5 for gas then have our coastal regions destroyed.

We already have plenty of oil rigs right now sitting just off the SoCal coast.    I don&#x27;t live in a "fantasyland" , and understand that there are risks in this world.  This was the first sizeable oil spill just off our shores in 40&#x2B;years.  The last one occurring in California of all places, Santa Barbara.  So do we as a society curl up into a ball, and shut-down off-shore oil rigs, or do we try to understand the failures as to what occurred.... and move forward ?
