Its ashame these things have to happen in todays world. Offshore drilling is the dumbest thing and all those asshole republicans chanting "drill baby drill" I would like to drill a hole in their skulls. America is the only country stupid enough to invade a country with all the oil we need and not even get any of it. At least when China invades a country they do it right. America invades a country, bombs the shit out of them then builds them schools. lol. That is like someone robbing your house, raping your wife, then sticking around to cook you dinner and order some pay per view for you. I would be perfectly fine if we invaded a country and were like we are fucking taking over and taking all of your oil. But we invade a country, then spend trillions of dollars rebuilding it while our country goes to shit. Wtf?

And Obama wants more offshore drilling. Does this guy have any clue at all what he is doing? And for all you dumb republicans it is your own fault that Obama is President right now because if George Bush wasn't such a complete idiot America wouldn't of been so desperate to just elect anyone who was not George Bush. It is time that all Americans just let go of all the stupid fighting between democrats and republicans and get together and do whats right for the country.

Those bases they are building in Iraq are massive. Don't think for a moment that we will just exit that country without stipulations. They will be in US control. The civil unrest will remain hence US occupation.
And if it doesn't?? Then the US will make sure there is some for their own purposes.

It just pisses me off that we invade a country that has tons of oil and here we are destroying a beautiful area of our country and Obama says we will do more offshore drilling. So then the entire gulf coast can be just covered in oil. That will be wonderful.

and btw, the oil rig that blew up in the Gulf is putting out 42,000 gallons a day and the area now covers an area approximately the size of Rhode Island or 1,800 square miles...

Even if somehow it doesnt reach shore. I am sure it has already caused a tremendous amount of damage and killed millions of sea life. Not to mention how this will affect the entire Gulf coast fishing industry that relies heavily on that money. I know I will not be wanting to eat anything from the Gulf Coast now after this.

no sir, northeast alabama...they are saying it could reach as far east as pensacola and they are having major problems making the repairs because of the depth of this well {5,000 feet}...this is really, really bad

But......but........but with off shore drilling, the consumers can expect to pay less at the pump, so its worth all the risk. That's the Rep. mantra anyway.

All you guys seem to think we live in "Disneyland" . Drilling , especially deep-water drilling such as this, involves risks. Are you even aware how many oil rigs are off the LA, AL, and MS coasts right now ? There are thousands. So what's the alternative guys ? Shut down any/all offshore oil rigs?
KickinA, you do understand basic economics right. You have less supply out there if you shut down these rigs.... and prices will inevitably go up.
How 'bout we shut them all down , and you can your $5 at the pump, now..... not later.
It's Easy to criticize how bad this is, and the effect it will have once it comes ashore.... but let's look at what energy alternatives we have out there in today's world.
I expect all of you previous posters to be driving a Chevy Volt next year. Enjoy your electric vehicle.

I'm not criticizing anything. Albeit selfish, but if anything my position is that I have no problem paying extra. Both at the pump and its trickle down effect to the store shelves, if to stave off increased off shore drilling. I'm resourceful enough to problem solve and meet my needs until more alternative viable energy is at our disposal.

Fair enough..... But Lots of folks will bitch & moan at the reality of $5/gal. Gasoline..
The pain threshold for lots of people is much less than $5.
You'll know when we've hit that "tipping point" again when your local TV station interviews people at the pump, and all they do is bitch & moan at the sight of high gas prices.
That's when reality hits.

It is funny how legwand says idiot republicans chanting drill baby drill... when guess who O'DUMMY was the one who said DRILL DRILL DRILL and O'DUMMY is the only one whose opinion matters. You can thank Mr. Obama for this one
That's what trying to win votes, and gain popularity get you

I don't agree with Obama either. The reason I say "republicans" is because it seems they all think the exact same way. Whichever way the party thinks is how they think. There are a few exceptions to the rule. As there are, I'm sure, democrats who are for offshore drilling. I can make my own thoughts and opinions. I don't need a political party to tell me how to think. I am against offshore drilling because there are too many risks involved and I do care about our environment. We have one planet to live on so it would be intelligent not to destroy it. I would much rather pay $5 for gas then have our coastal regions destroyed.

We pay one way or the other..the dabate on fossil fuel will go on and on but one thing is for sure our technolgy is NOT ready for this challenge at this time and I wonder if Rush 51 would be spouting the same argument if the oil was 30 miles from the California costs and a home he had on the beach he had worked his whole life to pay for...........

We already have plenty of oil rigs right now sitting just off the SoCal coast. I don't live in a "fantasyland" , and understand that there are risks in this world.
This was the first sizeable oil spill just off our shores in 40+years. The last one occurring in California of all places, Santa Barbara. So do we as a society curl up into a ball, and shut-down off-shore oil rigs, or do we try to understand the failures as to what occurred.... and move forward ?

Americans spend all their time running in circles anyway perhaps it will slow this crazy ass life done some because we as a society are fucking the earth up so bad we will all live in a junkpile of shit soon enough.........all those sifi moves that show the future as a big pile of burning crap with junked out scumbags running the show may not be as far fetched and far off as it seems.....after all our history shows we fuck an area up and say Opps sorry thats the risk we must take and we leave the land abandoned and fucked and move to new pristine areas and do the same damned shit all over.... We are running out of areas to fuck up and continue and act like a bunch of spoiled ignorant assholes driving SUV's and throwing our trash out the window....come on down from California and help us spend the next 2 years trying to clean the mess up I'll bet you they still jack the prices of oil anyway. The is some speculation that this was sabatage by green groups the day before Earth Day to discourage further devolpment in the Artic and others speculate sabatage by the Oil industry spooks to drive up the summer price of Oil I doubt either of those senarios but I do not doubt that the economic fallout will be more costly than can be imagined at this time an no doubt it's just a matter of time till Oil prices climb.Mark my words.........We as a society will rue the day when we first made the decision to pull oil from the earth by drilling under the oceans..it's just plain DUMB DUMB DUMB
