I am about to buy a new grill and was wondering if some of you guys had suggestions for a good quality grill. I prefer the taste of Charcoal, but it seems that Charcoal grills are the neglected ones, so ill give gas a shot. I saw 1 the other day that was a Gas/Charcoal combo grill. I dont want a cheapo one either.

Any suggestions on a good one?

i've got a cheapo (200 bux) gas charbroil gas grill for weeknights when i just need quick heat. if you actually want taste tho, you gotta get one of those egg shaped webber joints for charcoal. they take longer to get going being charcoal, but the taste is fucking worth it.

I think Webber makes some of the best grills.

what's your price range, by the way? i heard about some gas grill patent that's expiring that has this infrared shit that can get your grill up to 600-700 degrees. now i guess all the grill makers have access to this infrared thing so the price will come down from thousands to maybe 400-500.

not bad for such high heat, you could sear some pretty sick medium rare steaks with that.

i am willing to spend up to 1200$ if it is worth it. i saw a few at Lowe's the other day that had refrigerators and side burners and all that good stuff, i dont necessarily care for all of that, but having 1 that would do charcoal and gas would be nice. the one i saw that would do both was in the 1200$ price range.

Check out the Sears site, they have a 3 day sale beginning today. They had a couple w/ the infra-red system also.

Home Depot site has a combo that functions as a smoker also

If you use anything other than a Weber charcoal grill, you're doing it wrong.

My eldest son bought me a Weber that uses both gas and charcoal but uses the charcoal for steaks, the gas for shrimp. Turns out some really good food. He does most of the grilling when he visits, I am lazy.

I've been through a lot of basic grills and ended up buying one of these the other day(everyone in Texas has one). I smoked a brisket on it yesterday.

All those fancy expensive grills don't cook real BBQ, they just cook your food over a flame.

with a smoker, you can smoke meat with the fire chamber for indirect cooking or you can just use it as a grill. You can even put some wood in the chamber while grilling to get a smokey flavor in your meat.

It cost's a fraction of those yuppy grills with the fridge and burners and it cooks real BBQ.

Weber is what I own and it works great. Very consistent, built to last and the way the grill is setup, the gas line never gets plugged or clogged.

I would own a separate smoker from the grill if it were me.

Sharky - I've been thinking about making this my 1st smoker purchase after seeing it online. I like how it has the offset smoker box so you don't disturb the main chamber while smoking. How big is this? How much can you fit inside?

Have you ever used 1 that had gas/charcoal on the same unit? Anyone here ever used one?

They make them in all different sizes. I think ACE hardware carries them. Pretty cheap too, 200-500 bucks tops.

Get one that has good trap doors for removing burnt wood/coals in the main chamber as well when you use it as a simple grill.

In the meantime, a 22" Webber charcoal can cook almost anything.

Yeah, the one in Sharky's link is $160 at Sears. The one I was trying to link looks like a safe w/ a smoker box at the bottom w/ a propane tank hookup (got some good reviews about easy to regulate temps)
