A tough decision has paid off!

I left a really good job about 5 years ago.  When I left, my wife quit her job and we moved to the beach in SC to become self-employed.

This was easily the scariest thing I (we) have ever done.  We walked away from 80K per year.  

I can't work for people, I know it was always my fault but I am too stubborn to change.  

We moved to pawleys island, SC to open an insurance agency catering to seniors and medicare.  I could not have been more correct in my assumption that this would be a great area to hone my craft.  There are TONS of senior here and not many good agents.

With my last batch of commission statements, I have matched mine and my wife's income from 5 years ago.  This is residual income that pays monthly for as long as the business stays on the books.  My clients love me so the business STAYS on the books.

I know this might be boring to most of you guys but I just wanted to let you know that THIS SHIT CAN BE DONE!!!  Leaving the "man" behind was easily the best decision I ever made.

I think I'll take monday off and then go fishing for a half-day on tuesday to celebrate.

Stay on top man. It's a copy cat league and sooner than later, chances are they'll be plenty of agents in like businesses.

For some reason, I came here to share.  I think maybe it's because there are so many young guys/gals on here who are frustrated with what the job market has to offer.  If you have a dream, a plan and WORK YOUR ASS OFF, you can tell the job market to kiss your ass

Your disappointing the "Occupy Wall Street" crowd that believe no one can get ahead on their own. It's someone else's duty to ensure that they earn a good living, it's owed to them.

Love your story, plenty like that. It's called risk/reward and with hard work it happens. 

Congrats. That's what makes this country great. If you have it in you, you can succeed. To hell with the people that want a Cuban/Venezuelan socialistic society where the government tells you where to live along with many other things.

Self-employment is impossible for most people.  The only way I was able to pull it off was that I HAD TO.  Lots of long days cold-calling wondering how I was going to make the monthly nut

Thanks guys.  I forgot to mention that we had a 5 month old child at the time we moved.  Formula and diapers are a son of a bitch.  Looking back, this was not the smartest move in the world but thankfully it worked out.

I am right there with ya.

Walked away from security in 2004 because I was unhappy as fuck. And I dreaded everyday back then and was pissed all the time 

I have been happy ever since

People then and now think I am a crazy fuck for doing the things I do. And the funny thing is I am about to leave here very soon and go on a trip from St. Louis to Florida, then back across ending up in Las Vegas over the course of a month or so. No timeline on the trip but will be picking out a house in the CHEAP Vegas housing market.

People wonder how I do the things I do and they could never take the risks I take? But at the same time I could not see myself in thier shoes with kids/wife and shit

I was just asked today by a old friend I have not seen in years what am I gonna be doing?

My response was simply. "Nothing I have ever done before"

 

Workin for "the man" is for people who do ot mind getting stepped on and then have to smile about it.

Fuck that!

Good stuff.  I'm currently at another shit for nothing job, however this time I'm making more scratch than ever - but I've never been so miserable.  I'm working on getting out.  Inspiration like this helps.
