Pitt out of conference and away = straight up loss and ATS. I'm a big Pitt fan and have followed them for seasons. I just know that whenver there is pre-season hype, high rankings, high expectations and a game on the road against a perenially strong team, almost always results in a FAT L when you take Pitt.
Give Pitt some time, they will begin to blow up and begin to cover, but not now...too many nerves, too young a QB and the Stache. This is how things work in the Burgh.

how could anyone like pitt w/ them breaking in a new QB in one of the toughest environments to play in ncaaf. Dumb dumb dumb.
Because the QB, Sunseri, isn't a true freshman coming in here. He's a redshirt sophomore so this is his 3rd year in the program and did some game time last year. Should have a good understanding of the offense.
How do you not like Pitt's rushing offense against Utah's D? Sunseri isn't going to have to do much except hand the ball off to heisman hopeful and the nation's leading returning rusher in Dion Lewis all game. Utah had a bad Rush D last year and now they're starting three linebackers against Pitt — Chaz Walker, Matt Martinez and Chad Manis — that have no starts, 22 tackles and one sack in their careers. They have played in a combined 54 games, all off the bench. Don't forget that Utah's starting strong safety, Brian Blechen, is an 18-year-old true freshman. Watch out for the 6'5'' 225 lb Jonathan Baldwin, who also happens to run a sub 4.4 40, to get behing the defense at least once.
Utah sophomore quarterback Jordan Wynn, who took over the starting job in the eighth game last year, also can expect some pressure. Pitt led the nation in sacks last year with 47. Defensive end Greg Romeus, a preseason All-American, will face Utah left tackle John Cullen, who will be making his first Division I start.
GLADLY TAKE PITT + THE POINTS

Give me Utah or Bust... I made some money with Utah last year and look to do the same this year. Pitt would seem to be the pick getting points... Line opened at 1 and is now at 3? This in itself makes me lean towards Utah.
Experience cannot be underated (in response to the "rookie linebacker" comment), but the will to win and competitive spirit can sometimes overcome experience. I feel this will be the stage for these "rookie" linebackers to prove to the country they can shut down a back like Lewis. They'll be prepared!!
Final play Utah -3!
Good Luck to all!!

First game of the year I'm hoping these 2 come out with some jabs (running the ball) enough to possibly keep this on the low, then home team gets it done late -- U -3 & UNDER 48.5

Boy. These first games are tough. Those of you know me, know that I’m a stat guy.Stats tell you a lot.Unfortunately, there aren’t many numbers to look at before the first game.So let me dig…
My gut tells methat the mountain air is tough on flat-landers.Looking at Utah home games, I find that not many non-MWC teams play in Salt Lake City. But a few did…
2007:UCLA lost to Utah big
2008:Oregon State lost 31-28
2009: Louisville lost 30-14
And some low-lying MWC schools like UNLV and San Diego St make a habit of getting smoked here.Utes even got a home win against TCU in 2008.
I’m guessing that Panthers are gassed by the second half and Utah pulls away…

Pitt rarely travels west of the Mississippi... and, believe it or not, this is the first time they've opened on the road since 1991! Last season, their 1st road game was at Buffalo... two years ago they didn't leave home 'til October. (Pitt's L3 openers have against Youngstown State, Bowling Green, and Eastern Michigan... all at home.)
Gotta give props to Pitt's "D" and those big DEs... but, what better way to counter than with a mobile and athletic QB? Utah QB Wynn started the L5G LY and the Utes averaged 34.2 ppg (compared to the 27.1 before he took over). The last time I saw this guy, was last year's Pointsettia Bowl when he threw for 340 yds and 3 TDs in a 37-27 win over Cal... as a 3-pt dog!
Big East dogs are 0-3 ATS versus Mountain West teams L3 being outscored 107-42.
Add the fact that Utah has won their L3G against top-25 squads by a cumulative score of 105-40... and my money's eagerly on Utah tonight.

Lewis all day. I like Pitt and the over. More on Pitt. Might hit Pitt and a small parlay on Pitt and the over. A great running game is perfect for Pitt to break in a new QB. I don't think Utah has the talent to stay close. Pitt jumps out early and cruises late.

I like Utah is this game. This is a LONG trip for Pitt & they have to play in HOT weather in an higher elevation, not as high (I don't believe) as Colorado, but high enough. Utah is used to it, Pitt is not!!! Also, Utah is a MONSTER at home!!
Final Score: Utah 28 Pitt 17
