Wk 0 - Picks and Why

CFB is back - hope everyone has a great season.   At this juncture all we have to go on - is Opening lines from oddsmakers, last years numbers and the speculation of what we hear about teams, players, coach's, etc.     Week 0 and 1 - I always want to be careful.    That being said - let's look at some numbers (LY numbers):

    Memphis  35 59 70 89

- 3  UNLV   20 115 74 100    

Unlv opened at -3, currently around 4.   When you look at last years numbers   Unlv is better in total off at 20 vs 35, while Memph. is better in Total Def. at 59 vs 115,  Sagarin rank at 70 vs 74 and better in sag. sched strength at 89 vs 100 .   When I compare the opening line and this scenario to other games that were played in week 0 or week 1 in years past - the data indicates - the away team keeps it close and often wins it straight up.   My plays for the day:

1. Memphis +4 

2. Usc -38.5

3. Nc State +4

4. Nc St./Virg.  over 51

 Just giving out some info not detering you from your pick but memphis whole new team on off and Def and they have a whole new set of coaches so I cant see how you can compare their stats from last year

Thanks for the insight - always appreciated.  My comment about being careful is the motto for the first couple of weeks.  The comparison is all I have at this point - how good that comparison is or isn't I can't argue with you as the players have changed as you indicated. I figure the oddsmakers - have the resources to put a line of 3 vice 3.5 or 2.5 - they are using something to come up with that number - I embrace it and use whatever I can to hopefully pick the correct side.    Based on what I got and the opening line - that's what the data is telling me - let's see what happens.   BOL to you bud.
