The Big 12 and ACC could get two teams in this year which leaves fewer at large bids. I could see it happening this year. If Bama loses to Georgia Saturday they will already have 2 losses and Georgia would have the head to head and fewer loses. No SEC championship game appearance for Alabama.

Going into October there are 5 undefeated SEC teams. Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, Missouri, and Ole Miss. All the traditional SEC powers; Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama and LSU already have a loss. And don’t forget newcomer Texas.

I think there will be quite a few teams invited with multiple losses…in fact I don’t see an undefeated team going into the playoffs. 2 losses will actually be considered a premium

Interesting thread

My question is what will the CFP committee do with Vanderbilt if they win out. Are you telling me that they will take all the 2 loss teams in the SEC except them?

If Texas wins out, i think they get in. Resume will be wins over at the time #5 Oklahoma, at the time #9 Vanderbilt & #3 Texas A&M. Losses at #2 Ohio St. & at #5 Georgia. Bad loss at Florida. I know people hate Texas, but 3 wins against top 10 teams is not too bad. We shall see.

All hell is going to break loose if that happens. Especially if you bypass several 2 loss Power 5 teams.

All hell is going to break no matter what. Someone is not going to be happy with the final 12. The committee is not going to punish a team for losing a tough non conference game. Matter of fact, they are going to reward them. Texas lost to Ohio St. by 7 opening day on the road, outgained them by over 100+ yards. Even though they are a 3 loss team, the committee looks at them as 2 loss team. I may be wrong, won't be the last time. A lot of football to be played.

they are basically dead..of course if absurdity reigns then it is possible they backdoor in but they would prob need a good 10+ results to all come out in their favor…

So they are going to reward them for playing Ohio St on the road, but they are going disregard the fact that they lost to a 3 win florida team?

Absolutely not. Florida was a bad loss, but it was in conference. I was mainly talking about teams playing cupcakes in non conference games. A lot of the so called experts in college football were saying that if Texas went 2-1 the last 3 games, they had a shot of making it as a 3 loss team. Not highly, but a chance.

I get what your saying but I just think that this could cause all kinds of problems.
Like Tennessee, if they win out, they would have only 3 losses (Bama, Geo, and Oklahoma).
And don't forget that already, several teams in the ACC, Big 12 and Big Ten may have only 2 losses, and they would get jumped by 3-loss Texas?
I'm not saying your right or wrong. I just get the feeling that it could cause all kinds of problems with the CFP. Might as well make the playoffs 32 teams and take all 16 SEC programs because it is the toughest all around conference.

There will be too much pressure on committee to not allow a 5th Sec team especially with 3 losses, when they can easily replace them with a second ACC, Big 12 school or allow a 4th Big Ten team in to make that look even, though we know the conferences aren’t
