You can ignore the silly new screen name. I was reading a book about Haiti, and needed a new handle. So, here we are.
I’ve been a member forever, but got locked out of my account for years thank to a dead email address. I’m sure you’re all fascinated. Anyway, rest assured I’m back with the same 46% win rate that made me a “Legend” on here (if memory serves) in the first place.
I do like the card this week. I’ll get to that in a moment.

Tulane +3.5. - Somebody wins this one by 3. Either way, Tulane covers. Every game at West Point comes down to the final :36 anyway.
WVU beats Arizona. Cats get a lot of hype for a team coming off its first cover of the year. Noon kick tough for desert dwellers.
Kansas State doesn’t lose under the bright lights of Manhattan; and, when they do, it’s generally to better teams than Houston, which is missing, I believe, its top RB.
Iowa +3.5 - isn’t Iowa just better than Washington?
NC State +3.5 - world is in love with Wake, and, to some extent, rightly so. But Raleigh is a tough place to win, and State’s been pretty good since opening night flub in Charlottesville.

Tulsa +1.5 - mids are always plucky at home, but Tulsa is better at football
North Texas -28 - seems like a lot of points until you remember they’re playing Charlotte. 49ers have very limited offense, and are a perfect 0-5 ATS.
Oregon State -15.5 (current line) - they’re are many sure things in life, unless, perhaps, you go to Cornell, but facing a team off of a win in which they were out-gained by an impossible 326 yards, is just an auto-play.
Boise State 6.5 - just not sold on Fresno; Bozo State a pretty complete team.

games I’m looking at - no idea why we just switched to italics, but I like it
tennessee - 13.5 - Arkansas program is sketchiest arky operation since the Rose Law Firm, but Vols have tide on deck
temple -3.5. - I love K.C. Keeler; owls are a couple of snaps from being 4-1, and ARE 4-1 ATS. But, why does this game feel like a coin flip?
penn state - when asked, while at a bar in Columbia, SC last Friday, who I liked in the Penn State / Northwestern game, I was only sober enough to respond “Penn state is dogshit.” This week, I think they beat USC, which is a spiffy 1-4 against the number, and damn near lost to Rutgers the last time they left LA. Just can’t bring myself to bet it yet.
Purdue ML - this line looks designed to drive Gopher action, and it has; Loafers off of season-making win may struggle to match homeboys’ enthusiasm.
Oregon -11.5 - I’ve liked UCLA since I saw them in week one, and this feels like 4 too many points; I suspect, however, it won’t be nearly enough.

If you want to use the eyetest or past history of how team play, 'be my guest' but this has been good the past 2-3 yrs and gets updated after every week like Sagarin etc ....
Some people have their own ratings....well, ESPN SP+ pretty much nailed the games last night and UTSA stole it late but spread should have been tighter according to variance numbers

I used to be MaineRoad, and perhaps I will be again. Just gotta get my login sorted out. I’ve been trying for quite a while. Surprised and pleased to see so many familiar faces still around.

I (well, almost) called my own shot last night. I decided to leave 5.5 alone, tho I thought UTSA would win. I agree that “the numbers” had it much closer to a pick. So, I told a pal, if USF goes up early, let’s see what we can get in-game on the Runners. That turned out to be -1.5. As you’ll recall, the game looked absolutely destined to end 26-24, which would have been cool ?? with my -1.5. Anyway, happy for the other UTSA backers with larger numbers, as they cashed them all. Should they have? Hard to say. Refs such a big impact, by eye test seemed to indicate they were pretty damn closely matched.

I started out pretty good, especially in CFB; but, as time went on, I became just another “caveman staring at the stars,” to borrow a phrase from great (former?) Covers Brother, Bustin Piles (who I once had the pleasure of meeting in New Orleans). Eventually, I pretty much just tried to make people smile, while pissing $15,000 back and forth each season. Anyway; it’s good to be back. Thanks for noticing/remembering.
