Anyone have any idea as to why Miami is only a 4 point favorite against Appalachian ST? Line looks kinda of fishy.... Thoughts

I thought this was a trap for Miami as well. But I know this game was circled on Miami calender even before Appy pushed Tennessee to the brink. I had Appy covering in that one... Tennessee is pretty vanilla on offense if you can stop the run and make Dobbs beat you through the air. I was more suprised by the strength of Appy's rush attack vs Tennessee and I think Miami probly was too....
Now.... Having said that...
I heard an old college coach say once that you can only really get an emotional lift, (firing up your team), 3 times in a season.... Thats 3 games in a whole season that you can really get your boys worked up and FOCUSED at the same time... 3 times in a season that you can expect them to perform at their peak.... If you ask any more than that, the message becomes stale or you just wear them out emotionally. The theory has always made sense to me.
I would say Appy used one of those against Tennessee....
Now we could say that this is the biggest game that Appy has ever hosted.... They WILL be fired up.... But is this too much pressure on them to be hosting with their crowd in a frenzy? I find it funny that they are actually somewhat EXPECTED to win this game, when just competing for 4 quarters with a big 5 opponent used to be enough to satisfy. For a small school, these kinda expectations can be a distraction.
I have been saying the whole off-season that I thought miami was being overlooked. They are sitting in the shadows of FSU, Louisville, and Clemson. Bookmakers have also underestimated them.... Evidenced by their 2-0 record ats so far. I heard "experts" saying miami would lose this game weeks ago and when combined with Appy's performance vs Tennessee, i see value here.
If Al Golden was still coaching Miami, I would totally understand this line. But Mark Richt played against top SEC competition.... He's seen bigger and badder teams and crowds.... Same goes for Kayaa... This is the U we are talking about. They know what a big game is.
Remember this name... Shaquille Quarterman.... Freshman linebacker who came into the U and won captaincy as MLB.... FRESHMAN!! The kid is a beast who flies to the ball and hits like a ton of bricks. Manny Diaz has a trio of freshman linebackers that would normally give me pause against a strong rush attack.... But go ahead and look on youtube at a video of Quarterman blasting a running back opening weekend and remember that this kid is a FRESHMAN!!! The entire Miami defense will be back next year and watchout.... I think this could be the game that introduces the country to these Linebackers.... Quarterman looks like Ray Lewis.... A straight MANCHILD...
I was nervous this was a trap game and the line was low enough to make me hesitate.... But I started realizing that Miami hasnt been SEEN yet.... They blasted some weaker teams as they should... Last week Kayaa had a bad game and they still covered because Quarterman and this defense refused to give up points. Kayaa wont have 2 bad ones in a row. Richt is too good a coach for that. Kayaa can pick apart Appy defense in ways Dobbs could only hope....
Gimme THE U minus the Chalk.... And watch football fans get reintroduced to what Miami defense used to be about!!!

With you on Da U, General. App St hangs around for a half, like with Tennessee, but talent eventually wins out and Miami wins by 7+. Kayaa throwing the ball makes Dobbs look like an intramural flag football QB and he should have much more success against the Mountaineer D. Combine that with Miami going into the bye week and I think CMR will have Da Canes hitting on all cylinders and looking to avoid the small school upset. While I am not a fan of Mark Richt, he looks revitalized and I don't think there's any way he will allow his kids to look past App St and I'm sure they've seen and heard about the Tennessee debacle many times in the past week or so.
Let's hope we have it right.

, I just love college football, not so much when I lose, but even then. Miami should wear these feisty App State boys down second half. As should Bama versus an already thin Mississippi, and Florida State versus Louisville. If you don't make the play on the game than consider a second half play if the score is close. In each of these games the home team is the dog and the motivational edge will be long gone come second half. That is when the talent prevails. I am only betting on Florida ST -2 out of these three excellent games but the other two I will watch and enjoy with the possibility of second half bets.

You are right ... Miami will smother that one dimensional offense ... Plus the Canes actually have an offense as well ... Canes by 15 or more ....

I am suspicious of Miami. Lots of injuries but they do return 16 starters,
All App State has done is nearly beat a much hyped Tenn team at home...and then covered late w Old Dom in a let down spot.
When a team is good and consistently covering in tough situations, I'm in. I don't see Miami running away with this, in fact, I may make a money line play on App.

the only inexpereicned area are the true freshman linebackers. they returned their entire offense which has NFL starting players. the dline does as well.
do not overtnink this. miami is on a totally different level.

To read this thread you'd think Miami could waltz into 'bama and thump them. They were 8-5 last year, they have a new coach, and their offense returns intact. They play a harder schedule. Lots to like.
App State opened up a 4.5 dog and was promptly bet down to 3.5. That's sharp early money. They were 9-2 last year, albeit they play in the Sun which hardly gets the blood pumping. The telling sign for me was the App v Tenn game which App should have won. Everyone is talking about Miami's improvement- what about App State's improvement?
Old memories die hard. The Miami of 20 years ago is not the Miami of today. It could be- but they have to prove it first. App St has been proving it last year and this year.
Looking forward to this game.
