Bibs - I respect your capping, and think you do a great job (keep at it this year..everyone goes through a nasty run or two) Here is my take, and (yes, I am a homer, but I do tend to think I can look at it objectively) Huskers are a far, far better team then when they played tech last year (as well, tech is a better, more experienced team with taylor even more dangerous now). Tech does play physical, has good team speed, and is likely more talented top to bottom then the Huskers (no arguement here). I thought Tech was over rated to start the year (obviously I am a Husker, but I live in Va and follow them closely), and against Bama that was shown (although Bama looked very, very good)...the only thing that kept Tech in that game was ST play (whats new with Tech?!). They demolished Marshall (who could not beat 1/2 the teams in the Sun Belt conference btw), and Huskers cruise past 2 teams from the aforementioned SBC. I really thought the line would have opened at Tech minus 7-8..I was quite surprised when it opened at 3...currently at 5 with my local.
Tech offense - good, but not great...for this being the most talented team since the MV era, I am underwhelmed..(maybe that will change on Saturday?) - Tyrod is dangerous, and is getting to be a better all around QB, and the young RB's are good.
Tech defense - very good, not great (you cant allow over 500 yards to Bama and be considered great just yet). Fast, physical, solid...Bud always has very, very good defenses, and this one is no different
Husker offense - even better then last year. QB Lee is heady, smart, and makes good decisions (might get a little rocky with Bud's D all over him...) - skill positions are improving...RB Helu is very good, and WR's are showing up (as well there is very good speed at WR).
Husker defense - much, much improved from last year - very young though...1 freshman and 2 sophs starting at LB - secondary gives up too many big plays....D line is the definitive strength of this team - DT Suh is projected top 5 pick next year and is a monster, and the rest of the D line is very solid
3 things will decide this game imo -
1) Can Husker O line match the physical play of the Tech D line?? This is the one I am worried about - I am not impressed with our O line....we will see Saturday
2) Can Husker D line stop Hokies from running and force Taylor to beat them? I believe it will be very difficult for Tech to run at the Husker D....I can see Tyrod getting outside and improvising on busted plays and that hurting the Huskers, but I seriously doubt Tech will rack up 200 yards running straight at em
3) Beamer Ball - we all know how Tech feeds of this (unreal really...they have made a living for years on game changin special teams play...props to them). If the ST game is even, Huskers have a chance to win...if Beamer Ball strikes, it will be difficult for them imo....
I expect a FG game either way...I am not on HUskers yet, but if it gets to 6, I believe I will bite. And regarding Lane stadium, I have been there for a few games...it is loud, but not THAT loud and (except at Night...night games there do rock) and not a real big stadium...6 point advantage???? I dont think so, but they do have a great record there. It will be a fun game I think!
