Good points. Aside from the picks and all the "services", the information is very good.

I thought that was a very good point as well.

I will usually buy two preseason foots mags - one of them is ALWAYS Phil Steele. Because his pub is the only one that has certain info that I like. It could have more and be better for the bettor if he would shorten his ridiculously long and "past history" verbiage in the Position Outlook section,.
I also find it amusing that nowhere in the preseason mag does Phil mention the term "ATS." Nowhere does he breathe a hint that he's a professional tout, which to some is akin to a baby killer.
But "ATS" is all over his newsletter! And all the absurd come-on's. But, we all did have a long discussion on PS before the season began. Now, this forum is all about Plays, Locks, Units Won, etc No one wants to talk about any thing else except who's hot, who has the lock, all that.

Phil, in preseason picked Rutgers to win the Big East. Despite a brand new QB, a mediocre RB, two new WRs to replace two gone to NFL, and I think a new TE as well
He went by the schedule, Knights have an "easy" schedule.
But I don't want to denigrate the magazine - if I had the option to buy only one, it woudl be his. Even at triple the cost.
BTW, did anyone buy his preseason NFL magazine? If so, how is it. I do know that the free one he used to send to people who answered his questionnaire was not written or reseeached by him

George, I agree with that. The free issue that I got yesterday cov -ered Week One, and so there was nothing to write about of substance.
It's probably worth it for the stat data, tho most of that is also available online. Just not in the convenient format in which he presents it.
I'd guess that most of his newsletter clientele are buying it for his picks. He makes his big money convertingt them to customers for his Late Plays or Pay by Phone or Pay After Winninng picks.
Phil never gambles on football, as he told the old Stardust Handicapping show about 8-10 years ago. Probably for the same reason he pretends his preseason mag is all about rah-rah go team stuff - and not about trying to win money by betting on some teams.
But it may be just as well he's not a football bettor - that way he won't likely keep any of the "good stuff" out of his spring magazine

For you and me.
But most of his subscribers who pay the $8 want winners.
Steele makes these picks almost immediatly after the games are over, as soon as the lines are posted. He has to, in order to get his newsletter in the mail.
So why does he make the picks and feature them prominently in his newsletter? Simple, crack. It's what a significant portion of his paying customers want.
That biz is all about target marketing. I personally bet on one else's picks. I posted as a matter of interest
