"Known as Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium since 2003, the stadium has played host to 261 Colorado State football games in its 49 years. It has seen 145 Rams victories and two ties. Next season, Colorado State University will open its new multi-purpose on-campus stadium, and bring football back to campus for the first time since Nov. 25, 1967. The new Iris & Michael Smith Alumni Center will be housed in the stadium, and will serve as a place of pride and home to more than 215,000 alumni."
Stadium openings, an angle I played with the Kings this year and won with, are powerful. Stadium closings are even more so. If that's not enough for you to lay 4.5 here, I don't know what is.
Having said all this, CSU gave up nearly 500 yards rushing to Air Force last week. Their run defense against the #1 run offense Is suspect to say the least. But they can score in bunches. The shaky performances of UNM in their last three, each one getting worse, combined with a stadium closure/potential bowl clinching win makes me think this will not be close. CSU is also an excellent home team at 4-1 this year and winning 15 of their last 19.
I'll have more but that's it for now. Details ironed out later. We also get that late-night rowdy crowd send-off with a 7:30 start here. Love that prime-time focus on the last game played at Hughes stadium.
And remember Rutgers won and covered its only game of the year (Rutgers was actually laying 6) against the Lobos in what I think is their worst season ever. Their option offense is effective IF they don't go down big. Go down big? They have to throw to save time and then they are dead. I expect CSU to come out like a house of fire for this special night.
