Cal will score points in abundance against PAC 10 defenses, but this is an SEC defense. They struggled to score against the Vols in last season's rout, and the result will be the same this year. Cal will score no more than 17-20 points.
Remember the so-called experts said Ohio State would run up and down the field on Florida in last year's National Championship game. Ohio State's offense scored a grand total of 7 points. The other 7 were scored on a kickoff return.
FREAK OUT!!!

I've done my research and concluded the pick of the day is Ole Miss -3 over Memphis. Go to sportsnetwork.com --> college football --> and read the write up. Fiest is selling this, I believe for $50. He advertises a pick in the Ole Miss/Memphis game and after reviewing the write-ups, I concluded that he is selling Ole Miss. I believe he is right. That is my only action of the day.

I always look for quagmire games and the only one I see is ULL-South Carolina. It will be rainy. Under is a great pick because ULL cannot score and Carolina has some key people suspended. Don't spend you entire grand today as I do not see any slam dunks. You are right about the big spreads as the back door cover can and probably will happen. These games are good in 6 pt teaser situations. Play Ole-Miss for 500.

FACTS & STATS: Site: Liberty Bowl (62,380) -- Memphis, Tennessee Television: Local. Home Record: Ole Miss 0-0, Memphis 0-0. Away Record: Ole Miss 0-0, Memphis 0-0. Neutral Record: Ole Miss 0-0, Memphis 0-0. Conference Record: Ole Miss 0-0, Memphis 0-0. Series Record: Ole Miss leads, 44-10-2.
GAME NOTES: The Ole Miss Rebels travel to Memphis to kick off the 2007 season with the Tigers at the Liberty Bowl. The Rebels are coming off a disappointing 4-8 season, which included an ugly 2-6 mark in the SEC. Under third-year coach Ed Orgeron, the Rebels are still out to prove they can run with the big dogs in the SEC, but may struggle to do so this year with some major holes to fill on defense. Still, Ole Miss has started 10 of its last seasons with a victory in the first game, including wins over Memphis in each of the last two seasons. As for the Tigers, they are looking to erase the memory of last year's 2-10 season. However, with seven starters and a few big-time playmakers returning on each side of the ball, there is a buzz around the Memphis campus. The Tigers come into the season with a talented group of wideouts on offense, and a new philosophy on defense, both of which will be key to the team's success this year. Ole Miss has dominated the head-to-head series with a 44-10-2 record.
Ole Miss breaks in a new signal-caller in senior Sam Adams, who takes over for last year's starter, Brent Schaeffer. Schaeffer had problems avoiding interceptions in '06 and failed to hold down the starting job in camp, so all eyes will be on Adams to see if he can take control of the offense. He will have the luxury of handing the ball to BenJarvis Green-Ellis, who is coming off a 1,000-yard, seven-touchdown season. An offensive line that features four returning starters is charged with opening holes for Green-Ellis and protecting Adams. Most of the key pass catchers are back, though they return to a unit that ranked 112th in the nation in pass offense.
The defensive line returns sophomore ends Greg Hardy and Marcus Tillman, a pair of First Team Freshman All-Americans. They will need to stay on top of their game and pressure the quarterback, given the Rebels' lack of experience in the secondary. Ole Miss is going with a pair of first-time starters at cornerback, and the team must replace all three of its linebackers from last season, including NFL departees Patrick Willis and Rory Johnson. Coach Orgeron turns the defensive gameplan over to coordinator John Thompson, though he won't have a whole lot of proven talent with which to work.
Despite coming off its worst season in nearly a quarter-century, there is more hope for the Tigers in 2007, and much of the reason has to do with the offense. Quarterback Martin Hankins looked sharp at times in his first year since transferring from Southeastern Louisiana, but he also sat atop the league with 13 interceptions. With a year in the system, Hankins, now a senior, will be counted on to limit those mistakes. He has a solid weapon in Conference USA All-Freshman wideout Duke Calhoun, who hauled in 42 passes for a team-high 681 yards. And in the backfield, he has senior running back Joe Doss, who is coming off a 900-yard rushing season.
The Tigers tried going with a 3-4 scheme last year, but it failed miserably and they found themselves trying to play catch-up most weeks. But with a deep and talented defensive line, coach Tommy West has switched back to the 4-3 in order to best utilize the strongest faction of the defense. The linebacking corps did not play up to par last year, though that unit, which includes junior college transfer Tommy Phelps, showed improvement throughout the spring and in preseason camp. The secondary, however, is young and largely untested. Look for Adams and the Rebels to test this group through the air.
The Tigers will likely improve upon last year's dreadful season. But the turnaround is going to take some time, and Ole Miss has simply owned the Tigers for two straight years. Ole Miss may not necessarily have the playmakers at wideout to put up some big numbers in the passing game, but they have a dynamic running back who is ready and able to carry the load, and the Rebels to another season-opening win.
Predicted Outcome: Ole Miss 34, Memphis 20

If I had a play of the day I would go with Iowa/N Ill over 46.
I hope Cal whips fat Fulmers butt. Look out for Ok St to give UGA a very tough time. Auburn should pull away from KSU easily in the 2nd half (unfortunately).
