Look, I have been a huge Patterson supporter for a long time. The guy is solid. Look at him as a coach and look at the mad hatter as a coach and I think you will honestly see that Patterson is WAAYYY beyond a better coach.
I absolutely agree Patterson is a better coach! I was only defending the particular calls made by Les Miles on Saturday. (certainly far from the dumbest calls he has ever made)
And as far as TN goes: 1) Peterson 2) Patterson and 3) Gruden...that would be my top three! The really sad part is Peterson only makes a little over 2 mil......Dooley makes a little under 2 mil! Offer him 4 mil and make him say no.
I would be surprised if TN did not inquire about Patterson's interest when Kiffen left; however, TN was in a very bad hiring situation when we hired Dooley, he was way down on our list, but two weeks before signing day, you are asking a reputable coach to screw over his current school in the same manner Kiffen left UT. (and Kiffen was not USC first choice either as they had the same problem UT had as they were left high and dry on short notice as well).
I am surprised Dooley has not been fired yet in order to get a head start on the coaching search, but realistically, it does not matter as the coaches we will pursue have current positions, so waiting until the end of the season and during the "dead" period of recruiting will not hurt.

My gut actually says they may try to make a " Splash " and hire Gruden. It may not be the best choice at this point, but Tennessee needs something proven at this point.
