Cocca FLA +8.5 at Cincinnati Colerain
Colerain has the name of one of America's top programs but must replace a ton of talent this year. Solid LBs and one of Ohio's best junior running backs. Defense should be a strength.
Whether or not this is really "the year" for the team. The prospect of Colerain emerging from Cincinnati to a national level has been a constant stop-and-start the past few seasons - looking as if it was ready to take the next step but then falling short.
Cocca -- This season, the team will bring back seven starters on offense and six on defense. The experience of winning at Abilene (Texas) High and overcoming adversity at Madison County (Fla.) High will only add to the overall depth of the players on the team. The collective effort is the strength of the team.
It is not news to anyone that Cocoa is going to run the ball and play defense. That means the two-player tandem of Tarean Folston and Antwan Lee will be the next in line to receive carries, pressure and attention because of it.
"We figure to do much of the same things this year as last year," coach John Wilkinson said. "We have a couple guys fighting for spots, but it won't change us very much. We do what we do and won't stray too far from it."

Frendship Academy -3.5 at Cincinnati Taft
These are two regional programs that are loaded with prospects. DC Frendship Academy is playing its first national game and has a 9-hour bus ride at 8 a.m. on Saturday
Taft has absolute beasts at RB (Dequan Smith), WR (Dwayne Stanford) and TE/DE (Adolphus Washington -- Ohio State)
Taft will start sophomore DeAndre Smith at quarterback on Sunday. Smith learned last week he would start, according to Martin.
Smith replaces senior Kendall Bobo, who bruised his hand on Adolphus Washington‘s helmet, according to Martin. Bobo previously also had a virus and lost 10-15 pounds, according to Martin.
Martin said he will manage the game with Smith and is “not going to put him any uncompromising positions” on Sunday. Martin said Smith knows he can always throw the ball to Stanford.
Martin said the Senators can’t wait to take the field. He said Friendship is very similar to Taft on the field and he expects the difference to be on defense with the key being whoever figures out the offense will be most successful.
“I know they are very aggressive,” Martin said. “(They) try to put as much pressure on the quarterback as possible. (We are) hoping to leave Dwayne (Stanford) one on one.”
Martin, who went to middle school at the building that now occupies Friendship, said he expects a physical game on Sunday.
“Everybody says they are very talented,” Martin said. “…Our approach has been we worry about what we do. Focus on our responsibility.”

Wheaton Warrenville South -17.5 (???) vs. Glenbard West
Unlike a lot of past Wheaton Warrenville South teams, this one doesn't possess much star power. Senior athlete and Northwestern recruit Dan Vitale is the closest player to that, but even he didn't see a whole lot of playing time last season. Vitale will play at nearly every possible offensive position this year. "He'll be all over the place," Muhitch said.
Reilly O'Toole, who is now at Illinois, led the Tigers to two consecutive state titles and the No. 1 ranking last year. Armstrong, who is a transfer from Ottawa, has a strong arm, has size at 6-6 and has quickly picked up the Tigers offense.
The entire offensive line is new. The Tigers will be starting all juniors this season. "Not only are they young, but they're inexperienced," Muhitch said. "They have talent and they're big. We think the future is right in front of us."
"Win or lose, we'll be a better program," Muhitch said of facing Glenbard West and Maine South in the first two weeks.

While the Glenbard West Hilltoppers do possess some size, especially in Division I linemen Tommy Schutt and Johnny Caspers, they'll be driven by their speed this season.

Aug. 28 at Wheaton Warrenville South -- There are plenty of reasons to be excited about this game. Both teams are ranked in the area's top three. They've met in the playoffs the last two years with Wheaton Warrenville South winning in the 7A title game two years ago and in the quarterfinals last season. Finally, the game is going to be televised on ESPN2. "It's important because it's Wheaton South," Hetlet said. "They've ended our season the last two years in the quarterfinals and the state championship game. Whether we win or lose, it won't make or break our season, but it's exciting."
"We need to win for it to be a rivalry," said Hetlet of Wheaton Warrenville South.
There is plenty of returning talent here including tons of team speed, high major D-I DT, OL, LB and S and a dual-threat quarterback. Prediction: Wheaton Warrenville South 28, Glenbard West 27

I have scoured the internet for the injury and suspension report and have found no players missing. I have a flat betting structure where I expect all my plays to win and I risk the same amount on this bet. Not in high school football because I am very confident on some of these plays.
WWS replaces 19 STARTERS from its state championship team including its All-World 2 time state champ QB. Not to say the replacements aren't capable, there is talent on hand. BUT
Glenbard West has tons of talent returning including High-Major DT, OL, LB and S. They are confident in what they do and with plenty of size and team speed will look to run the ball 45 times or more. Add in dual-threat QB Justice Odom and West should move the football against the inexperienced D.
Then there is the rivalry factor. Many are expecting this game to be very tight, a toss up. WWS has ended Glenbard's season last year and the teams played a tight game 2 years ago. Glenbard has this game circled and is playing for respect. WWS is in a learning situation with games against the area's top 2 teams in 2 weeks.
I am all over the 17-and-a-half points of value offered here and will gladly watch Sunday on ESPN2 as this game comes down to the wire.

These Elk Grove programs have engaged in many spirited battles, and Monterey Trail – with a cast of new faces – is eager for its first victory over the Eagles, ranked No. 8 nationally by Maxpreps. Mustangs linebacker Sterling Powell will key on running back Mark Jenkins, quarterback Cody Demps and a power running game.
Pleasant Grove went 13-1 overall in 2010, setting a new school record for single-season wins and lost only to eventual state champion Folsom.The stakes are even higher this season.
Pleasant Grove immediately garnered national attention in June when MaxPreps, a high school sports website, ranked them eighth in the country.
Pleasant Grove also has one of the best weapons in all of the Sac-Joaquin Section, kicker Marcus White. Not only does he routinely reach the end zone with his kickoffs for automatic touchbacks, but he is also one of the few reliable section kickers from at least 40 yards.

18.5 seems a tad high for a rivalry game but there does seem to be a large talent and experience edge to Pleasant Grove....first time they have had a SR starter at QB and RB.....6 starters back on defense but 11 return with experience

Pleasant Grove will run as it always does with a terrific line under line coach Dale Ellingsworth. Is Sterling Powell the next great Mustangs wow player? He'll need to offer some wow on Saturday.

Hillcrest +3 at Seneca Missouri
"We have expectations and they're high for this group of seniors," said Beckham.When Beckham and his staff arrived in 2008 there were only 43 football players at the high school. Now, the Hornets feature 100 players.
Getting Green-Beckham the ball will be key. That responsibility falls on senior quarterback Matt Futrell who started every game for the Hornets last season.
"Last season I didn't really know what to expect," said Futrell. "This season I'm just looking forward to that first game to prove myself."
"That year of experience makes a big difference," said Beckham. "Matt has been very good this summer at camp. He's making the right decisions, the right throws. It's a big difference from last year."
While the Hornets lack size on both lines, they are very solid at the linebacker position with 2nd team all-state senior Scott Smith along with Nick Gann, and Donovan Mathis.
Trying to get Dorial Green-Beckham the ball is not as easy it sounds with teams somebody putting 3 defenders on him.
"It's not that easy. That's why it's important to have other options, but we're goint to try to get him the ball when we can."
Providing an alternate option is talented sophomore receiver Jajaun Johnson.
Running back is a question mark with the departure of Michael McShane. Stuart Andress will get the first crack at the starting job when the Hornets open up Saturday August 27th vs. Seneca at Missouri Southern in a game televised nationally on ESPN U.

Scheible is entering his first season as the Indians’ head coach and already had the tall order of replacing all-conference talent at every skill position on offense. He also lost starting defensive backs on defense.
In 2010, Seneca finished as the district runner-up and fell to Holden in the first round of the state playoffs. Hillcrest finished with an overall 7-5 record and lost to Union in the second round of the playoffs.
“One of the first things I talked about with Coach (Chris) Yust when I was hired was about how we were going to defend (Green-Beckham),” Seneca football coach Dan Scheible said. “We think it’s a great chance for our players to make some great memories, playing on ESPN against one of the best high school players in the country.”

Hillcrest has the best player in the game, Dorial Green-Beckham, but has the best cast of surrounding players and experience too. Returning QB Futrell can get him the ball, and there is a secondary option in JaJuan Johnson.
Meanwhile Seneca must replace talent at the skill positions......and oh yeah all its DBs. Good luck with that trying to defend a vertical passing attack. Don't quite know how and I will scoop it up while I can.

Let's hang around the Centex area a little longer, shall we? This cross-luxury land holy war is slowly starting to grip the imagination of the rest of the state, and with good cause: all sniping aside, these two teams have combined for eight state title game appearances since 2000 (granted, LT has won its four), which should tell you quite clearly that these two teams play for keeps. Winner take all? Not so much — LT is still down in 4A, while Westlake is stuck with the 5A route, so the game is only good for bragging rights. But no matter which class LT may play in, it's still difficult for Westlake faithful to write off the Cavs' success when LT keeps beating them: 32-21 in 2010, 42-21 in 2009, 38-17 in 2008. The Chaps haven't hoisted the proverbial trophy since 2007. So why could that change this time around? Well, for starters, I don't think we're exactly sure what to expect out of Lake Travis yet. Is versatile athlete Colin Lagasse back? Yes. Tight end/receiver Griffin Gilbert? Yes. LB Blake Burdette? Yes. But a late transfer by WR Dannon Cavil and inexperience along the offensive line make the Cavs look a bit mortal, by their standards. Westlake, on the other hand, has three years worth of teasing clinging to its jerseys and a fair amount of skill to boot — RB Brice Dolezal is a key piece of the offense, and the Chaps didn't seem to have any problem moving the ball in (admittedly untrustworthy) preseason scrimmages. While it might signal the apocalypse, I'm actually thinking this is Westlake's game — despite a late move of Blake Box to QB and Lewis Guilbeau to WR. But I will now right the world again: I still think LT will figure it out later in the year and win a fifth title.

The better team has the best Defense, while the weaker team has the Offense. Call me crazy, but last year's 28-14 total might be higher than this year's. Early season DEFENSE is always farther ahead than offense anyways.
