Aggies started out -2.5 favs, but patience (hopefully) paid off as I got them at "pick em" today. This is a risky play because it is damn hard to do due diligence when:
1) No yardstick to measure TAMU. Not only do we not have a Week 1 game to access (it was postponed due to Hurricane Isaac), but we have a redshirt freshman, Johnny Manziel, under center for the Aggies who will be taking his first college snap ever.
2) Florida has a ton of talent, and on any given Saturday if they gel it could get ugly.
3) High emotions on both sides. TAMU wants to make a statement to the SEC that they belong......UF wants to make a statement that says "You're playing with the big boys now newbie.....now STFU and here's what we think of the billboard you put in downtown Gainesville!"
NOW, as to why I am taking TAMU:
I don't think the game will be in Manziel's hands, and he is a serious run threat when he does take off.
I think Kevin Sumlin did an awesome job as couch at Houston. I watched nearly every Houston game last year, mainly to follow Case Keenum, and they were extraordinarily well couched. I trust Sumlin to generate a game plan that will not overly complicate things for Manziel.
I question Muschamp's ability to get his guys motivated. They were plain vanilla against Bowling Green, and could have lost to them at the Swamp!
UF has a QB controversy.
Huge home game for TAMU.....like the 12th man.
I can get TAMU now at "pick em," whereas they were giving as much as -2.5 before.
Taking TAMU at "pick em" -110 and thinking that the emotion of making an immediate SEC statement against the Gators....backed by a rabid home crowd..... will have the Aggies flying around the field. That said, the Gators will no doubt be fired up. Very close game.

florida is my picks of the week, here is what i posted yesterday:
This week take the gators +1.5

Florida didn't look that great in week 1 against BG. However, if you
watched that game you would have seen that Muschamp stayed very vanilla
and ran the ball up the middle a ton. He's trying to instill a tough /
physical style with his team which they lacked last year. So there is
obvious overreaction with the closer than expected game with BG. BG has
a tone of players back from last year, they will have a solid year in
the MAC - Florida defense is loaded, they are going up against a redshirt frosh QB making first start - Florida starting Driscal, played pretty well in week 1 (10-16) while sharing snaps with Brissett - A&M has a lot of new faces on D Line so florida should be able to have some success on the ground - I realize the 12th man and all that, but i just think FLA defense gets it done against green QB - Fla playing game 2, A&M playing game 1, most improvement comes between week 1 and 2

The coach at TAM when at Houston did not play anywhere the talent he will face in the SEC. It is easy to gun the ball all over agaisnt the old conference since they did not play defense. Also the new QB will see things tomorrow that he never saw in high school. I have Fla ML. And I belive Fls has become the Favorite. The 12th man is over hype at that stadium. Sorry, just my view. Good luck the rest of the weekend.

how many games should have A&M won last year where they ended up shitting the bed and blowing it. Oklahoma state comes to mind but you can go on and on... that was with a first round NFL pick at QB, now you want to back them against a solid SEC team?
do you think deep down A&M is expecting to win sat? i know Florida is.

Yes, I think deep down A&M is expecting to win. I also think that the Gators, while they'll be fired up, have to have some doubts in the back of their minds. I am not questioning your logic, and this is certainly a game that one could argue in either direction. I laid out my reasons for picking A&M....and of course I could be proven wrong.
Anyway, BOL on the rest of your card!

Florida no longer has a qb controversy. Driskel is starting.
Florida was vanilla vs BG. Theres a reason. They fully expected to win that game. They were in test mode.
Floridas defense is pretty damn good. They get the benefit of having a game under their belt to boot. Not the kinda defense you wanna open your career against.
I am not saying you are wrong, but this is a tough game to cap. I just took the under 51 as of now......
