huh? What the hell has Paterno done in the past 15 years? How close has he been to playing in the national championship? Exactly. Its a direct reflection of recruiting. You NEED recruiting to compete at the very highest level. How you can argue against that blows my mind. Again, what team thats won a national championship since the BCS was formed did not have great recruiting? Name just one. Please.
Of course not every player pans out (like Hazelton). Thats a given. But any class in the top 5 will surely be a solid one. If half the guys pan out, its a success.
This years class (whether its 2006 or 2007) was #1 and #2. So yes, it didnt work out for them. HOWEVER, some factors translate to why USC didnt perform this year. Sanchez leaving early affected them. In 2006, they did not expect a true freshmen to start.
Again, some players dont pan out (McKnight). But that happens every class. Hyped players are not automatic.
If you dont think it matters, than you root for a team thats happy to win 9-10 games per year, but dont matter when it comes to the national championship (example Penn State and Georgia).
it completely matters to the teams who want to play in the NC (Ask Texas, LSU, Florida and USC if it matters). They didnt win NC because of coaching alone, sorry to break it to you.
And yes, I dont feel good about Seantrel. but I am happy just to see USC being mentioned as a destination. I do feel GREAT about him ending up there. The Sanctions USC faces will be a slap on the rest. I do fear he's just a knucklehead type of kid. Something about him smells like trouble and a big head case.
Ironically i said i dont care unless it guarantees a national championship initially (which it doesnt) and your copy past job twists my words. Wake up and read the posts instead of jumping down peoples throats because they dont get hard off a top 5 recuriting class and signing day.
You may want to look up how close Penn State has been to a possible national title game too, twice in the last 5 years they lost one game, twice on the last play of the game. Penn State and Paterno do not believe in paying players to win national championships, the belief at Penn State is to educate players to succeed in life. They wont just go out and get any thug with a 4.4 and sign them.
Players leave early all the time so dont make excuses, what if Penn State had Maybin and Evans back from last year, no one would have scored on them...blah blah blah..
