Sheraton Hawaii Bowl

I have my leans on this one, but wanted to first drop some thoughts on the line and all the chatter that's surrounding this game.  The line has stayed at 3, at least it has at my book and it has because likely every angle is being covered by the Joe Q. Publics who finally have off from work and want to impress their friends and family with their gambling prowess.  But it's Christmas Eve, only degenerates have time to do their research, so they hang onto what they know.  Some will see Oregon State, losers of five in a row and back Boise.  Some will read that Boise's starting QB took a leak off a balcony and their coach is gone and back Oregon State.  Right there, you have balanced action. Some will remember the statue of liberty play to beat Oklahoma even though it was years ago and some will say Oregon State is "motivated" to win this one and their star QB will light up the defense to improve his draft stock.  All things I've seen, but none of which is about x's and o's and what will happen on the field.  We just don't know how these teams come out and adding that it's in Hawaii always adds even more uncertainty.  When this game ends, many will be able to look back and say their "theory" was right, but it's like the tech bubble.  Will they really be right, or did it just work out?

Anyway, enough of my preface and commentary.  Picks coming up after one more run through the matchup and the numbers.

Oregon St/Boise St over 33 1h (84 units to win 80)

Average 1q score over the last seven Hawaii Bowls is 8 and much of that speaks to the island travels. Beyond that, and specific to this game, Riley recruits Hawaii, and much of that is on the defensive side of the ball. I dismiss the Southwick drama. He is not their best QB or seemingly someone doesn't want him to be playing. Lets just say Boise has the personnel they want save for the biggest missing piece in Peterson. Beyond that, this is not the same Boise team we are use to seeing in the bowls.

Boise ranks 2nd to worst in passing defense on the road and in neutral games. 2nd worst! This is not the same defense we know and surely Kellen Moore would not be pissing off the balcony or taking a polygraph. Innocent or guilty, Southwick is involved bc of Southwick

The last 6 Hawaii bowls, the team leading at the half, but I'm not sure it plays to that script this year. I want to play Oregon State but I just can't pull the trigger. I'll invest in a sluggish start for both teams offensively and then the flood gates open because neither team will be able to stop the other.

Some stats on Boise pass defense on the road this season, save for the game against Utah State who was playing a 2nd and 3rd string QB. Against Boise on the road, QBs have completed 66.7% of their passes, thrown for 361 yards with 12 TDs and 3 INTs. On average these teams have scored 36 points. Lots of chatter on how bad Oregon St has been down the stretch, but they played the upper eschleon of the Pac 12. Sean Mannion is good and he is going to light up the Boise defense tonight. Last four he has been terrible, but one of those teams ranks #1 in interceptions, two of them rank on the top 20 and the other is USC, whose defense has turned it around. Again, Boise ranks second to last in passing yards allowed while away from the blue turf. Mannion will get his tonight

I have a screenplay in my mind on how this game plays out. No real intelligence behind it, so really just a hunch. I see the Canes jumping out early and these two exchanging blows back and forth all game. In the end, Teddy BWater has the ball with a shot to win the game. And with that, we will have most bettors unsure of whether they will be on the winning or whining side of the ticket..
