Sparky- It came down to it, but Harrison Barnes "chose" NC over Puke. They had WoJo and the Rat all over him. Heels pretty much saved him a spot. Roy wasn't all over him.
And you know what, yeah, he can say he played at the same school MJ did. He's playing for the same guy that recruited him (Roy found him not Dean)
Yeah, It's choosing 1A over 1B, not the biggest shock.

Almost all of their marquee players have been whiny douches, who act like they have a sense of entitlement because the play for the Blue Devils... and they are all you ever hear about no MATTER IF THEY ARE GOOD or not. Same with Notre Dame in college football. Who cares if they are 2-9? I hate how they are always used as the example of a school that "does it the right way." Bullshit, there are a hundred other schools out there that conduct their program with inegrity, and do things the "right way," and all I have to say is Corey Maggette.
Also, when I went on my recruiting visit as senior in HS (for soccer), I saw first-hand how pretty much the entire student body are just smarmy, conceited, born-with-a-silver-spoon-in-their-mouth toolbags, that think they are better than everyone else because they go to Duke. I didn't see that at ANY other school I visited.
Obviosuly these are generalizations, but they are for the most part true.
Here are a few exceptions (Duke players I respect): Bobby Hurley, Grant Hill, Shane Battier

The most universally hated team along with NYY. I don't think its really that much of a mystery.
All that you need to know about Coach K occurred during the 1994-95 season. Pete Gaudet takes over the program when K is unable to coach because his team sucked and for no other reason. He successfully petitioned to have the record removed and promptly throw Gaudet under the bus. The man is a complete pos.
Great site for Duke haters:

so many outright lies in what you're saying....you probably think that the moon landing was faked and that Elvis is still alive

Team was 10-2 and nationally ranked when he took his leave of absence
It's the standard course for the NCAA not to assign Wins and Losses to a head coach in absence - Rick Majerus and others have received the same treatment from the NCAA. There was no petition by Duke or Krzyzweski to this effect. In answer to whether or not K 'blamed' Gaudet - I would think that you could readily find this by a simple google search if true. It is, in fact, not true.
The next season, K returns and takes the same team, minus its best player (Cherokee Parks) and with no significant additions and returns them to the NCAA tourney.
In answer to your question - no, Pete Gaudet is no longer at Duke, and yes he did leave shortly after the '94-'95 season. I will readily grant you that the whole situation could and should have been better handled - no mid-year abdication is a good one.
However, to suggest that K bailed out because of the team's quality is absurd. To further suggest that K is terrible human being somehow is just as stupid.

What does the NCAA Tourney & flip flops have in common ?
no heels.
What's the first quote you hear from a UNC graduate" "Welcome to McDonalds, may I take your order?"
How do you get a Carolina grad off your front porch? Pay him for the pizza.
How many Mickey D's all stars does it take to lose to the College of Charleston? 7 I think
A guy in a bar leans over to the guy next to him and says, "Wanna hear a good North Carolina joke?"
The guy next to him replies, "Well before you tell that joke, you should know something. I'm 6' tall, 200 lbs., and I am a North Carolina grad. The guy sitting next to me is 6' 2" tall, weighs 225, and he's a North Carolina grad. And the fella next to him is 6' 5" tall, weighs 250, and he's a North Carolina grad. Now, you still wanna tell that joke?"
The first guy says, "No, not if I'm gonna have to explain it three times."

Well you cant really hate a guy because he resembles a rodent, right?
HOWEVER, YOU CAN HATE THE LITTLE box BRANIAC FUCKS THAT INHABIT THE STANDS AND IF THEY EVER CAME DOWN TO CONFRONT AN OPPOSING PLAYER WITH THEIR GLIB LITTLE SMUG COMMENTS THEY WOULD BE POUNDED INTO A LITTLE BLUE AND WHITE PILE OF DOGSHIT DIRECTLY.

^ this year's final four is very reminiscent of the 2004 final four for me....the Duke-W Va game has a lot of parallels to the Duke-UConn game that year....hopefully a different outcome for my guys

A Wake fan walks into a bar after a bad experience during the Wake/UNC game in the dean dome. He says to the crowd in the bar, "All UNC fans are a bunch of assholes."
A man sitting at the bar says, "Hey, I resent that remark."

It's the fact that Jon Scheyer gave up his scholarship so someone who couldn't afford to play without one could have it while his parents could afford to pay $50000 a year

The reason Duke's best white players are so hated is mostly because of jealously from others. People look at guys like Scheyer, Reddick and think to themselves why cant I be like that too? I'm white, I'm not very athletic, I can't run fast or jump high. That could just as easily be me out there instead of him. They both looked like normal college students, almost like someone you sit next to in class. But they're not normal because they also happen to be amazing at basketball. And that's why people hate them so much. They wish they were just like them.
On the other hand, people see someone like John Wall and think to themselves, "he has so much god-given ability, I could never, ever be like him". They understand he's a freak of nature and accept that he won the genetic lottery. Whereas with guys like JJ and Scheyer, they are able to succeed and thrive at a very high level in spite of not having those enormous natural physical gifts like Wall has. Their just guys with a little talent who worked really, really hard to get where they are. And that's why people hate on them so much.

They needed a guy to coach defense!!!! Since USA couldn't do it.
SO what did the Rat do, bring in the best zone defense coach in Jimmy B. Now his team plays a lot more zone as well.
And don't even start me on what McNuts is talking about. Yeah, I want that guy in my foxhole!!!
He "needed surgery" right in the middle of the yr. It was real life and death.
The Heels have had a bad yr, but at least Roy took it like a man. Got the young guys turned around and playign better. Can't wait to watch the 3 guys that were playing last night to go with them.
They have injuries, played bad, and, ROY had surgery and just tied a coach to his arm and kept coaching thru the bad.
You can Root for your Yanks and Puke all you want to (like the rest of NYC). I will stick with my team.
Calhoun has battled cancer and other health problems and still came back to coach. He could have easily left the team to fend for themselves this year instead of coming back.
Shows the real difference between the 2 coaches. Calhoun is a fighter and doesn't abandon his team when they are down.

There is a reason why the top players choose teams like Duke, UNC, Syracuse, Michigan St. etc. They want to play for great coaches. They win...so they're hated. You wouldn't even have to recruit a star player from North Carolina. He'll probably tell you right there that he's wanted to play for Duke or UNC since he was a kid. Some choose WF or Clemson or another team in the Carolina's...but for the most part...the best will always have the most recognized schools in mind. It's not even about money.
John Wall is from NC. He followed the money to coach Cal.

I hate Duke for the same reason I hate the Yankees.... Their fanbase and I don't like Coack K, even though I respect him as a coach.
Also for all the talent and everythign that goes through that program, how many All Americans?, they do not produce high quality NBA players. A lot of their players end up being mediocre, average with a couple that end up shining.
