Kent State -5They are 14-6 and CMU is 7-13. They have won 2 in a row, while CMU has lost 5 straight. Kent State is 10-0 in their last 10 games against the Chippewas. Kent State leads them in basically ever major statistical category. Central Michigan has been losing by an average of just over 10 points in their current losing streak. Do I need to continue?
Marquette -8.5Marquette has won 6 straight and is seeking it's 7th straight conference victory. Seton Hall has lost 4 straight. Seton Hall won the last meeting between these 2 last year. However, they had lost 8 in a row to Marquette before that, by an average of 10 points. In Seton Hall's last 3 games, they have shot 37%, 26%, and 28%. They can't be a confident group right now. They get to face a Marquette team who has been notorious to have slow starts and strong finishes. I think Buzz Williams has team ready to come out fast and play to their potential from the start in this one. Seton Hall 1-22 in their last 23 road games against top 25 teams. I don't think Seton Hall can stay close in this one.
New Mexico -8.5A 17-4 Lobos team takes on the Air Force Falcons who are 11-8. Air Force has only beat one team that currently has a winning record. That win was against the Virginia Military (who is just 11-10) way back on November 12. In other words, Falcons haven't impressed against solid teams. They'll face a very solid New Mexico team tonight that has won 15 of their last 17, with the 2 losses coming to ranked opponents. This doesn't bode well for the Falcons, who are on a 4 game losing streak. To make things worse, New Mexico has won 9 straight against Air Force. The 8.5 spread is worrisome, but it is also important to note that Air Force is just 1-7 in their last 8 home games against the Lobos. I like my chances and hope the Lobos cover.
Wisconsin -917-5 Badgers take on 10-12 Nittany Lions. Badgers have won 5 in a row while the Lions have lost 5 of 6, including recent back-to-back blowout losses to Indiana and Ohio State by 19 and 24, respectively. Wisconsin boasts the nations best scoring defense, holding teams to under 50 points per game. Penn State sucks on offense to begin with scoring just over 62 a game. That ranks 288 out of the 340-something teams in the nation. Wisconsin doesn't score a ton of points (65 per), but they are full capable of winning by double figures. 12 of their 17 wins have been by double digits. I can see this game going a lot like Wisconsin's game at Nebraska (who sucks at offense like Penn State) where the Badgers won 64-40. Also important to note that the Badgers are 8-2 against Penn State in the last 10 meetings. Also, I'm sure the Wisconsin coaches will remind their players about the 36-33 loss to Penn State in last year's Big Ten tourney (yeah you read that score right). Possible revenge factor? Just looking at the last 5 games, Penn State has had field goal percentages of 33, 30, 40, 33, 31. That's terrible. I don't think things will get much better for them tonight as they play the nations number 1 ranked defense.
Oklahoma State -4Texas Tech is 7-13 and 0-8 in conference. I'm simply fading them here until they can manage to win a conference game. The Cowboys also suck but have a win over Missouri (ranked 2 at the time) under their belt. Also, Oklahoma State already beat Texas Tech by 8 at home earlier this year...and that was back when Texas Tech had won 3 of 4. Now they get to play them when they are in the midst of a 8 game losing streak where they have lost by an average of 17 points per game! Other than field goal percentage, the Cowboys are superior in every major statistical category. I mentioned Penn State being bad at offense, well Texas Tech is worse as they are ranked 300th in the nation at 61.9 ppg. Oklahoma City plays decent defense, allowing just 66.6 per game and I have them winning this game by 7+ points. It is important to point out that the Red Raiders season turned sour as soon as freshman point guard and team leader in assists per game injured his ankle back in December. They have really struggled without him, going just 1-8 since. It doesn't seem they have what it takes to hang with the Big 12 teams and Oklahoma State should be able to handle if they show up to play.
That's it for my college write-ups. Jumped way off the UNC under after a bit of research. UNC scores too much and plays too little defense for me to back an under. For NBA, I have:
Hawks -5Nuggets -2I'll post write-ups for NBA in the NBA forum later this afternoon. Best of luck to everyone. Feel free to fade my picks. Everyone else, Let's Do This!
