Sun Belt mayhem

Michigan-Illinois, Dayton-G.Wash and Akron-Kent St. are obviously the high-profile matchups, but it's going to be quite a wrap to the Sun Belt regular season today where 4 teams are tied for first place and 3 others are just 1 game behind. All 12 teams are in action tonight.

Other than last-place La. Monroe, everyone has a chance to move up (or down) which is important due to the whacky format in the Sun Belt conference tournament.

The 1-2 teams would get 5 byes into the semifinal, the 3-4 teams get 4 byes into the QF, 5-6 teams get 3 byes, 7-8 teams get 2 byes and 9-10 teams get a single bye. Translation: It's vital to finish as high as possible to avoid playing 5 or 6 days in a row at the tournament.

About to try to break it all down and come up with a couple of play for tonight, which should be absolutely wild.

Note: If Marshall wins their game, they hold the tiebreakers and would finish in 1st place. But a loss could send them down as far as 3-bye territory.

Marshall -7.5: Thundering Herd have it right there in front of them ... win at home over Georgia Southern and they are the Sun Belt regular season champs regardless of what anyone else does. The Herd has been rolling of late, particularly on offence, meanwhile Ga Southern has lost 6 of 7. Their only win? A 101-87 home decision over Marshall. Ga Southern cannot move up but a loss could drop them down to playing a first-round game. But I think the Herd has most of the motivation here and I look for them to go out in front of what is likely to be an excited, sold-out crowd and get it done for a 10-13 point victory. 0.5 units.
