Coming from a NFL betting background where I have seen many fixes, let downs, traps, strange calls, etc..
I am wondering since this is college sports and not pro if you guys see these types of things happening here?
It seems that betting on college sports would be much more legit, predictable and easier to cap given that the players are not getting paid a huge salary regardless the outcome + much less people gambling on college sports v.s. pro. Not a huge $ making biz as pro sports.

Seems like these young kids who are not just playing because its their job to collect a paycheck, but rather make a name for themselves and play competitively, so they can make a career down the road playing professionally.
I fee like the pro players would play with less conviction.
Also pro players are all great and any team can win at any time. (the any given sunday) Seems like there are greater mismatches to exploit in college ball. Especially if you take a heavy favorite on the ML less chance of an upset as in pro sports where anyone can win at any time.

Which part do you find hard to believe? that 1/3 of pro games are fixed, 1/2 college contests are, or both statistics?
I do not find it hard to believe 1/3 of pro games fixed at all because i've seen it with my own eyes. Makes sense lots and lots of $ in pro sports its all about $.
I find it hard to believe that college sports are 1/2 fixed which is more than pro sports!
College sports are not all about $. They are kids in college playing for their future and not near as big of a $ biz as pro sports.

But they are kids with no money and 99% of them have no pro prospect so they throw games for a few bucks. 2K to a college kid is a lot. It's probably more than half now that I think about it.

There have been many gambling or point shaving scandals in college sports in recent years. Hawaii Football and basketball this year. San Diego University Basketball a couple of years ago. Arizona State Basketball ten years ago. And my alma mater Fresno State Basketball when Tark the Shark was there.
Many of these college athletes start gambling on sports while they are attending school. They lose their ass, and then they are the pawns of the local that they owe $$$ to. Like someone said before they have little to no income so it does not take much $$$ to entice a college kid to fix a game.
Refs are also involved in fixing games because of the same reason. Their income pales in comparison to the athletes they are working with. Their knowledge of the game and inside info make it very tempting to gamble or fix games.

If you watched a NFL game or NBA and there was no spread , No gambling on it. Do you think there would be strange calls or there would be crazy endings all the fumbles and return int for TD that happens at the end.
Would the teams in the NBA foul if there down by 6 with 45 sec.. Of course it would still happen. Would people cry fix just rooting for there home team, Probably not...!! Its seems like its always a fix when you lose your money.... If you really believe 1/3 of the NFL and 1/2 of college is fixed why would you put any thought into gambling or gamble on it at all???? No disrespect just my thought..

I def think 1/3 and 1/2 is high. But yes $ talks and therefore fixes happen I do believe. I have seen it happen in many pro games.

I'm sure it happens during the big games with the sweet 16 etc when there are alot more bets coming in..
But I mean the overall big picture like betting on games now that fly under the radar. The ones only us degens play on. The plays that aren't bringing in a ton of bets..

You don't have a clue, billsneedhelp. Did you see the scandals I just listed. Most of them are from small teams. That is how they get caught. The books notice an unusual amount of $$$ bet on a team that is not a marquee name.
It is harder to fix big games because of how many people are watching them. Would it be easier to fix a game between the San Diego University Toreros vs Pepperdine University Waves, or a game like the Super Bowl where all of America is tuned in?
