YTD: 2-1 (&#x2B;.90u)Just like I thought would happen on Wednesday, Charleston stuck around for the entire night and had a real chance to win against Maryland. Additionally, Illinois showed a really solid defensive effort for the entire night, like I thought they would. A really strong defensive effort from start to finish by the Illini on Wednesday night. Of course, it helps that Toledo is god awful and breaking in lots of new pieces, but the Illini still put the clamps on them. When they are focused and playing defense, they&#x27;ll be one of the top 12-15 teams in the country.All plays are for a unit, and laying -110, unless otherwise noted.New Mexico State PKI don&#x27;t see anyone on Louisiana Lafayette&#x27;s roster that is going to be able to keep the trio of Wendell McKines, Hamidu Rahman and Troy Gillenwater off the glass. The backcourt is pretty much a wash in this matchup, but the Aggies do have plenty of experience there and it shouldn&#x27;t be a problem going on the road to a lame environment. Look out for incoming freshman guard Christian Kabongo, older brother of Myck Kabongo, who is going to be a great one. I just really can&#x27;t see the Cajuns keeping the Aggies off the backboards in this one. Lots of points in the paint for NMSU.Good luck to all.

like it, TRoe, but I can&#x27;t say I know much about these teams.As for the Illini, I can&#x27;t say I agree that they can play good defense. They&#x27;ve been god-awful on the defensive end and that&#x27;s kept them from the tournament. Davis and Tisdale are great shooters for their size, but they are so weak on the defensive end that I just can&#x27;t see them as a contender. They should make the tournament because they can fill it up from so many different places on the court, but I just can&#x27;t see them being there past the first weekend unless Tisdale&#x27;s bulking up process has made him a force inside. I just can&#x27;t believe they will improve enough on D to be up where you expect them

Poor research on my part. But the Cajuns still aren't keeping Rahman and Gillenwater off the glass. Thanks for the info though.

GWarner, I'll address the Illini more tomorrow as I'm headed out for the night, but I think they've got the potential to be an elite defensive team. And as much as I hate Weber, that team always plays good, hard, physical man-to-man defense.

Appalachian St &#x2B;7.5The Mountaineers have by far the best player on the court in this game in Donald Sims. Justin Hurtt is a nice player for Tulsa, but I&#x27;m not confident in the rest of the roster, and this is also a team that is going to have to adjust to playing without Jerome Jordan and Ben Uzoh, who combined for 43% of the Golden Hurricane scoring and 36% of their rebounding. I would look for the Mountaineers to try and push the pace here a little bit and make Tulsa uncomfortable as they break in new guards. Would not be surprised at all to see a SU win here by Appalachian State.

The Citadel &#x2B;14.5Upset with myself that I didn&#x27;t grab this at 15.5 last night, but I still like this play. Both backcourts are very solid, and we should get a solid show tonight from Cameron Wells (Citadel) and Kevin Anderson (Richmond). The Bulldogs do have a problem on the interior, although they do have a few big bodies transferring into the program in Morakinyo Williams (7&#x27;0") and Mike Dejworek (6&#x27;11"). Neither is going to be a great player, especially on the offensive end, but they should help defensively in keeping Justin Harper at bay. Additionally, both of these teams played at a crawl last year, with The Citadel ranking 329th in pace and Richmond ranking 289th. In a game that should be extremely slow, seven possessions is a lot.
