Monday night was a very emotional game for Oregon Coach, Dana Altman returning to play at the school he coached out and left less than a year ago after about 15 years. He is one of the best game coaches in the country and McDermott at Creighton is one of the worst. Now Altman returns home without the distractions of returning to Omaha and is one of the best coaches at making strategic adjustments. There is no way I see Creighton having any chance to sweep Altman in this series.
Everyone thinks that Creighton is suddenly playing great basketball but seem to overlook that their 4 wins in this tournament were all out home and they have actually lost their last 7 road games.
Creighton's Offensive Efficiency in their last 11 homes games is a staggering 122.5 while their OE in their last 7 away from home is 97.7. That's a difference of 24.8 which means Creighton scores about a quarter point less per possession on the road. Oregon's OE at home their last 8 is 108.4 and their last 9 away from home is 99.3.
Creighton is 2nd worst in the country (344 out of 345) in creating turnovers while Oregon rates 51st nationally in taking care of the ball.
Oregon's new arena is a tough place to play and Creighton will be a bit awe struck.
The way revenues work in the CBI is the home teams pay HDTV (Mark Cuban) for the game and get gate receipts. If you believe in business dictating, HDTV makes 6 figures more if Oregon wins game 2 and Oregon stands to make a lot more money by having an additional home game. No one outside of Creighton wants to see this series end 2-0.
From what I have read, Creighton is a bit disgruntled. Pre-season Player of the Year Kenny Lawson plays about 13 minutes per game because Coach McDermott plays his freshman son 30+ minutes per game and runs a majority of plays for his son. Gregory Echenique, the transfer from Rutgers isn't happy either and may not return for his senior year.
Oregon was expected to win about 10 games this year and are playing with enthusiasm and the fans are rallying around the program. Meanwhile, Creighton had to move these CBI games to a smaller gym (until the Oregon game) because attendance was so low.
I just think everything lines up well for a blow out tonight.

Game, Isn't Creighton playing an up-tempo style in thus tourney? If so any data from the regular season is out the window
They are playing about 5 possessions more per game in this tournament and have been scoring a lot more efficiently...at home...this is their 1st true road game in 35 days.

I agree wth the part about the going on the road for the first time in 4 games and yes the Jays do love home cooking. McDermott's son is one of the best freshman in the country the kid really doesn't do anything wrong, so to say that Lawson is pissed ya he probably is but he hasn't said one thing about it all year and has kept playing the same crappy way he's always played. Lawson has always wanted to be a 2 guard even though he is a 7 footer all he wants to do is play outside, hes not quick enough to even play the 4 position, which is why he is only playing 13 minutes a game. Echinique however has really come on in this tournament playing much better than he did during the regular season. P.S. He is only a Sophmore and I would expect him to come back pretty much a sure thing. So if that is your reason for the bet don't make it the largest play of the year but with that said I really think Oregon wins tonight.

McDermott is an excellent freshman offensive player but he is a defensive weakness and Oregon will isolate him tonight in one-on-one isolations and he will get torched. McDermott is a complete idiot. He has a history of not getting along with and alienating his players. Out of his 33 recruits at Iowa State, 28 left the progream early. Now he is alienating players because he runs everything for his son. Lawson has been screwed this season as badly as any player in the country. He is a legitimate threat to score both in the post and from the perimeter. In fact, he is a better scorer at this point in his career than Anthony Tolliver was at Creighton and had Altman stayed at Creighton, I think he would've been Player of the Year. In addition, he is an outstanding defensive rebounder and ranks 47th in the country this year. Creighton would have a huge advantage and would've won the MVC if McDermott used Echenique at the 5, Lawson at the 4 and his son at the 3. At the 3 position, Creighton gets just 10% of its scoring (NCAA average is 20.4%) and gets just 8.1% of its offensive reboudning from that position (NCAA average is 18.4%). McDermott has played Echenique and Lawson together less than 60 minutes for the entire season. Lawson clearly has talent. In mid December he dropped 30 and 18 on St. Josephs.and he per minute numbers are as good as they were last year. I do think his son is a good player but there best lineup would have him playing along side Echenique and Lawson.
Echenique is a possible NBA player down the road but from what I hear is he will participate with the Venezuelan National Team this summer and because of his Venezuelan passport, he is worth strong money in some overseas leagues and that he may leave after this year.

I am a season ticket holder for Creighton and hopfeully they can play the uptempo game the entire time next season. I honestly can't wait to lose this Senior class Kaleb Korver only plays because of his name and Lawson yea just doesn't play like he cares half of the time. But with that said we both agreee McDermott is an idiot. Anywho bust of luck tonight I will be playing Oregon as well but cheering for Creighton of course. I would expect a bad shooting perfomance from CU tonight for sure.

How Rasmussen hired McDermott is difficult to comprehend. He was ostracized and fired at Iowa State and then Rasmussen hired him like McDermott had just gotten to the Final 4. How does one explain how 28 of 33 recruits left McDermott before their time was up? And I hear Creighton's incoming recruiting class ranks 8th in the Missouri Valley. The former Creighton assistants did a good job recruiting. What are these guys doing? If Echenique leaves, Creighton won't win 15 games next year.

Excellent information. I need to research games a lot more. You've clearly done your homework. I took Creighton and just called to cancel my wager. This game is a no play and even if Creighton covers I'll be good with it. I am interested in watching this game even more now to see how it plays out.

There's no reason Lawson shouldn't be starting and playing 30+ minutes. I like your idea of putting McDermott at the three as well..Why wouldn't you play your best five players as much as possible? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out..They could have competed with Wichita State and Missouri State for best in the Valley...While I'm at it, Wichita is a good team and looks as good as any team in the country right now... (including the Final Four teams)
