Freshmen are something I struggle to cap, so if anyone has information
on game-changing freshmen (i.e. the entire UK 2011 class) please post it
here.
Not necessarily worried about a key 6th man, but definitely concerned
about a John Wall coming in and losing me money when I'm transitioning
to a much bigger unit this season.
Thanks a bunch

Rakeem Christmas 6'9 222 - McDonald's All-American is the top rated center according to Scout.com and the No. 2 center according to ESPNU. With Rick Jackson gone and Fab Melo coming off a less than stellar freshman campaign, Christmas has a chance to contribute right away in the low post for the Orange. He should be a defensive presence from Day 1.
Michael Carter-Williams 6-5 176 - Two-time Rhode Island Player of the Year is the 20th overall rated player by ESPNU and the 29th rated player by Scout.com. Carter-Williams is a shooting guard and early word out of the summer circuit is this kid has a great stroke and handles the ball well. Probably won't have the initial impact of Christmas simply because Brandon Triche and Dion Waiters play the same position. Can also play the point though and SU needs some depth there behind Scoop Jardine.
Hope this helps some.

I think chirstmas is going to be a stud for the cuse. He is going to contribute right away and with Jospeh and Jardine getting most of the attention he is going to benefit down low.

I hope so Orange. Rick Jackson did so much for them last year they need someone to step up. The Cuse gets a legit presence in the paint and they'll be really tough. What do you think of Fair? He was my favorite player last year. I liked the energy he brought off the bench.

- Anthony Davis, UK. He is a game changer. Even if only 200lbs soaking
wet, he'll step in and be one of the best defenders/rebounders in the
country. & has an offensive game to go with it. Best of the UK
Class. Marquis Teague will start at PG but is not cut from the Wall/Rose
cloth. Not sure he'll be as good as Knight, either. Word in the
spring-time was that Cal wasn't happy in the progression of his game.
Mike Gilchrist is likely the 3rd starting freshman for UK. He's a
do-it-all SF who's biggest impact will come on the defensive end. With
he and Davis, I think Kentucky has 2 of the top 10, if not 5 defenders
in the country by the time conference play rolls around.
- Drummond, Uconn. - Issue here has been is he lazy or bored? Nobody
could figure it out the past year. My guess is bored. Calhoun will get
him motivated and if he is, he is a monster. Looks like Amare, plays
like Amare with the ability to erase shots. Will start at C and push
Oriakhi to the 4 and Roscoe Smith to SF. Throw in Lamb at SG and Uconn
turns into the longest/most athletic team in the country.
- Austin Rivers, Duke- He's a gunner, Coach K will need to have him buy
in to the team and the idea of playing defense. Okay progress on that
front with their China trip but still work to do. Will start from Day 1
and it probably means Seth Curry will have to try to play PG in the
'Scheyer mold' for K.
- Brad Beal, Florida- Already better than Walker, Boynton or Rosario. So
somebody is going to have a bruised ego on that team. Think of Eric
Gordon. I imagine we see a lot of 4 guard sets from Billy D.
- LeBryan Nash, Okie St- A man child, but the skills need polishing.
Will start and be showcased from Day 1. To the point it could be a
little detrimental to Okie's success. He or Olukemi will have to be
forced into playing up front.
- Quincy Miller, Baylor- Coming off an ACL injury last year, so still
might not be 100% in November. But almost a lock to start and adds
perimeter shooting for the Bears. Also, even more length and size.
checks in as a 6'9 SF.
- Myck Kabongo, Texas- Texas is depleted so he'll get the nod from Day 1
and be in full control of the show. A little too flashy for his own
good at times, and that could lead to some early season struggles IMO.
^^ I'd say those are the guys who will be in the biggest roles come start of the year.
There are about a dozen or so other kids who are almost certain to start, I'd say they are:
Dorian Finney Smith, VA Tech - 6'8. most complete player Va Tech has had
since..? This kid has been overlooked by the media and HS ASG's but he
is an impact player. jumper needs work, though.
Kentavious Caldwell Pope - UGA- had eligibility issues cleared up a week
or 2 ago. Imagine he'll have a lot of responsibility in the back court.
big time scorer. plays 2G.
Cody Zeller- Indiana - in-state kid that Crean will rely on down-low.
not sure he's physically ready for the challenge, but better than IU's
other options.
Jabari Brown- Oregon - Think Austin Freeman. One sided player, all
offense. no defense. Will get shots on this Oregon team, probably lots
of them.
Josiah Turner- Arizona - Will have to beat out Mayes for the PG spot, but should. Will allow UA to play at a much quicker pace.
BJ Young- Arkansas- Best PG prospect in the 2011 class as far as I'm
concerned. Should thrive in Anderson's system. Good size (6'2), athletic
and in attack mode.
Rodney Hood- Miss St - should fill in nicely at SF. unlike most MSU kids
recently, NOT a head-case. Very well-grounded, smart kid and plays
unselfish. Lefty with a nice jumper and a good passer.
Trevor Lacy- Alabama - brings Alabama what they desperately need-
shooting. Should play off of J-Mike's doubles well. (also freshmen
Rodney Cooper and Levi Randolph also add perimiter scoring for Alabama)
Johnny O'Bryant - LSU - big man hasn't progressed well the past year,
gained a lot of bad weight. Not sure what he looks like now. If in
shape, he's a force around the rim. If not, impact will not be there.
Myles Mack- Rutgers- will be handed the keys from Day 1 at PG. small, but a hell of a player.

no mention of Ky Madden teaming up with BJ Young in Arkansas he certainly along with Young will have a big freshman season. Others not mentioned include Deandre Daniels UConn- getting rave reviews from the staff great shooter and ball handler, Otto Porter Gtown who is very underrated in this class will make a huge impact right away for the Hoyas, and Adonis Thomas for Memphis. As a UConn fan don't know what to expect from Drummond if you expect him to put up huge numbers you will be dissapointed hes raw very raw but i expect somewhere around 10 and 7 for most of the year, very excited about what i am hearing about Daniels though.

Auburn is about to be good fast under Barbee...If you do not watch but one, look at the 2nd one and the dunk over the 6'8" North Carolina recruit by Johnson, he is sick...

I know carter-Williams......good kid.... sick shooter.... should be a very good player long-term for cuse.
I went to Midnight Madness at SU and I'll say this about Carter-Williams, he certainly looks the part. He showed a nice shooting touch and at a legit 6-5 he can play the point. I'm very intrigued by him. You don't see a lot of guys that tall that can handle the ball like he can.

Expect another huge impact from 3 freshman at UK. Nobody lets his freshman just play like Calipari. Anthony Davis especially. They might a tad over rated at first though because it takes soem time to gel, so you might be able to get some inflated lines in the beginning with UK.

those johnson dunks were amazing...you thinking auburn will be a nice sleeper pick?
this is going to be a great year...i like zona and cuse this year
I would say Varez Ward isn't exactly a scoring threat, unless that's something he worked on while rehabbing and sitting out the year, but he was one of those rugged glue players who my alma-mater really couldn't replace when he went down with the injury that sidelined him.
I'm not sure I'm a Barbee believer, but I think he did really well with Culpepper and Stefon Jackson and the SEC isn't exactly basketball-crazed so road wins are much easier to come by
