Off another 2-0 day Tuesday, look to keep slowly building towards the post-season fun...
California Golden Bears +4.5: Kind of an interesting line here as SMU makes just their 2nd ever visit to the Haas Pavillion, having won by 4 points almost to this day in 2025. Teams have identical overall records while SMU is a game ahead in the conference standings. Cal gets a key player back tonight as senior F and rebounding stalwart Lee Dort returns from a 7-game absence. That will be important in the sense that SMU has some very effective bigs, although Cal actually gets a lot of their scoring from their own bigs. Junior G Dai Dai Ames does provide them with solid scoring from the outside. Both of these teams are on or near the bubble for an NCAA tourney berth, which means this game is probably even more important to Cal to hold serve in Berkley. Losing home games against fellow bubble teams is frowned upon by the committee at this stage of the season and Cal has already lost several of them in conference play. They really need this one, and while they may or may not get it, having a 4.5 point buffer will be happily accepted from a betting standpoint. 0.75 units.
