We’re still don't have an official date, or location, for when the NHL will return this season, but if we do get to see the puck drop on the Stanley Cup Playoffs, at least we’ll know the plan. That, more importantly, means we’ll have NHL series prices for bettors to feast on.

The NHL announced it’s revised 24-team playoff format in June, and most sportsbooks have since posted NHL series odds for the “play-in” series matchups as a part of the revised playoff plan. The plan's Phase 2 is set to start "no earlier than mid-July," which is about two weeks away, but there's still no confirmed dates when these NHL play-in series will take place, nor do we know where the “hub” cities - one for each conference - will be.

How will the new NHL playoff format work?

The top 12 teams in each conference will compete in the new-look NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs format. The top four teams in each conference will compete in a three-game round-robin to determine first-round seeding. Teams No. 5 through 12 will face off in a best-of-five “play-in” series to advance to the first round. So, team No. 5 would play No. 12, No. 6 would play No. 11 and so on. How to bet NHL series prices

Betting NHL series prices is pretty straightforward, as you are just betting which team will win the series. Let’s take the Pittsburgh Penguins vs Montreal Canadiens play-in series for example. The Penguins are listed at -220, while the Canadiens are on the board at +180.

The minus (-) indicates the Penguins are the favorite to win the series and the price means that bettors would have to wager $220 on Pittsburgh to win $100. While a $100 bet on the underdog (+) Canadiens would return $180.

The odds listed above are in American format, but can easily be converted to decimal or fractional format via our odds converter tool.
