Although the Edmonton Elks suffered their first loss of the season over the weekend, a cupcake matchup against the winless Ottawa Redblacks presents an easy opportunity to regain traction at home.

Billed as a 6.5-point favorite ahead of Thursday's clash at Commonwealth Stadium, my Redblacks vs. Elks predictions expect Edmonton to dominate on both sides of the ball in Week 6.

Find out more in my CFL picks for July 9.

Who will win Redblacks vs Elks: Elks -6.5 (-110)

The 0-4 Ottawa Redblacks have turned the ball over a league-worst 13 times already this season, and Jake Maier hasn’t been much of an answer under center, averaging just 7.4 yards per attempt — the lowest mark among starting QBs in the CFL.

The BC Lions did a great job of bottling up Cody Fajardo and the Edmonton Elks offense last week, but Edmonton’s offense should have far more time to throw against a Redblacks defense that has recorded only four sacks and is surrendering an average of 8.1 yards on first down.

One area where the Edmonton defense can be exposed is against the ground game, but it’ll be tough sledding for an Ottawa rushing attack producing only 65.3 yards per game.

I'm all over Edmonton regaining momentum in the CFL odds, and I'd play this spread to -9.5.

Redblacks vs Elks total prediction: Under 58.5 (-110)

Ottawa continues to stall out in opponent territory, having already settled for a CFL-high 13 field goals entering Week 6 play.

With Maier ranking last in QB completion percentage (66.9%) and recording only three completions of 30+ yards, I don't have much faith in the road team doing its part to push this game past the total — the highest either team has seen this season.

Playable to 57.5.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Ottawa has given up the most "big plays" this season (17), which include offensive plays of 20+ rushing yards and 30+ passing yards.

Redblacks vs Elks same-game parlay

Head coach Ryan Dinwiddie seemed exasperated following Ottawa's latest loss to Saskatchewan, admitting the team's football intelligence hasn't been up to par.

The average margin of victory is sitting at 7.5 points league-wide, and I wouldn't be surprised if this line moves further in Edmonton's favor by kickoff.
