I'm leaning VERY hard towards the Vols here. Here's why:
Tennessee has an extremely talented defense -- ranked 7th in the nation in total defense and 25th nationally against the run.....which is Vandy's bread an butter
The Vols are off a bye week
The Vols are off a ridiculously emberassing loss at HOME to Wyoming
Vandy is off a solid road win at Kentucky
Rivalry game -- Vandy usually "gets up" for playing Tennessee -- this year I think the roles are reversed
Only two games left for Fulmer and/or the team to save some face....

Vandy actually looked like a solid team for the first time in weeks this past weekend. They are now bowl-eligible and would love nothing more than to finish off the "dream" season with a victory over the Vols. Also, the game is at Vanderbilt and the fans will be out of their minds.

I agree, Tenn does suck this year. But I believe they WILL beat Vandy by 7. Even though Fulmer is gone, I believe a lot of the players respect him for what he was and does not want to send him home without a few more wins. This will be an important game for Fulmer, and I believe his players know this.
I felt good about Vandy at the beginning of the year, but now since they are bowl eligible and that monkey is off there back, they aren't going to be playing like they did against Kentucky.
GO VOLS

afraid i can't help you... i'm seriously thinking about Tennessee, too...
i agree completely with your reasons... if this was Fulmer's last game there would be no hesitation at all... my biggest reason is because my chart predicts spreads within a FG 80% of the time, but when it's off the game usually involves high spreads or top 10 teams... my chart put this spread around (-8.5)... when it is shaded 5.5 points towards UT, crossing 7, 6, 4 and 3.5, i'm inclined to believe there is a reason...
i will admit, using the chart this way is more effective with 1st halves than game spreads... but still well over 60% for final scores...
basically, how do the books put up such a short line after UT loses to one of the worst teams in CFB? if they wanted to take money on the Vols, they would have put this at 4.5 or even 7.5... clearly they are more afraid of getting burned by Vandy money than UT money...

Because Tennessee checked out of the 2008 season about 3 weeks ago. They obviously don't care. If you lose to Wyoming, you're not hanging with Vandy. Even if you had 2 consecutive bye weeks

1. They have played with 0 motivation all year, including after the firing announcement. I have no reason to believe they will get up for this game because they havent gotten up for a game all year.
2. There defense is good. But when your offense goes 3 and out on nearly every drive they get tired and worn out. They have absolutely 0 offense and Vandy's secondary is 1 of the best ball hawking groups in the SEC. That could be trouble for the shithole turnover machines they got at QB
Im certainly not betting on this game, but i think you got to be a little crazy to bet on Tenn in this one.

Your last 4 or so points were all questioning the motivation factor in the matchup.
Vandy has something to play for where Tenn does not. The week Tenn let Fulmer go, his team came out and did nothing against Wyoming. That was about as flat as I have ever seen Tenn. If the Tenn players cared about their coach they would have beaten Wyoming.
From a who wants it more perspective, I think Tenn has packed it in for the year. I do think they have the athletes to beat Vandy, but not the heart.

Tennessee has thrown in the towel and all the players are blaming the OC for Fulmers Ouster... How can you bet on a team that lost as a 26 point favorite at home on HComing after the HC of 17 years had been fired...UT is toast..Vandy is a gift and very motivated after getting to 6 wins for the first time since 1982. Very relaxed and motivated Vandy team this week...they are going bowling and UT is going nowhere...the line is way off. UT players have no heart, nothing to play for and hate their coaching staff. Vandy should have beat them last year in Knoxville...if you bet UT +3...your an idiot or just a dumb Vol Fan...it's over Vol Fans ...your just an also ran now...a bottom feeder.

Rivalry game -- Vandy usually "gets up" for playing Tennessee
This year, not only does Vandy get up for the game, but they have the better team. All the air has been let out of Fat Phil's team and they're just going through the motions now.
Vandy had a 15 point lead heading into the 4th Quarter last year before letting that one go. I doubt this team has forgotten that.
Has Vandy ever been the favorite in this matchup? I doubt it. They've got something to prove.

Tennessee will win this game outright...they are more talented at every position on the field except for QB...Fulmer will pull every trick in the book to not go out w/ losses to Vandy and Kentucky.

I'm probably loading up on Vandy...Tennessee's offense has been non existent. Not to mention they allowed Wyoming to come into town to beat them. Couldn't score on Wyoming, they probably won't be able to score this week either. But it is Vanderbilt and they are capable of fucking up a wet dream.

i'm on vandy, tennessee has no heart, won't come to play, and just has nothing going for them, but like said above, its vandy so you never know what to expect
