Preview: Texas Tech at Iowa State

When: 3:30 PM ET, Saturday, November 19, 2016
Where: Jack Trice Stadium, Ames, Iowa

Texas Tech, coming off a heartbreaking 45-44 home loss to Oklahoma State, must win its final two games on the road to become bowl eligible for the second straight year. First up for the Red Raiders is a trip north to chilly Iowa State on Saturday afternoon.

Early weather forecasts call for a temperature of 39 degrees at kickoff and dropping to 32 by the end of the game with a northwest wind from 10 to 15 mph. Although his team averages almost 57 pass attempts per game and leads the nation in passing offense with an average of 473.1 yards per outing, third-year Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury didn't seem very concerned with the prospect of cold and windy weather. "I know it's supposed to be windy and a little chilly," Kingsbury told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, "but we have some of those things here in Lubbock. So I think we can handle those conditions, but I guess we'll see." Kingsbury and the Red Raiders will have no such concerns in their regular-season finale next week against Baylor which will be played inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

TV: 3:30 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1.  LINE: Texas Tech -3

ABOUT TEXAS TECH (4-6, 2-5 Big 12): Junior quarterback Patrick Mahomes II, despite playing much of the season with a sore throwing shoulder, still leads the nation in passing yards (4,247), passing yards per game (424.7) and total offense per game (449.8) and also has rushed for 293 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has completed 340-of-509 passes (66.8 percent) while throwing 34 touchdown passes and just eight interceptions with sophomore wide receiver Jonathan Giles (65 catches, 1,076 yards, 12 TDs) serving as his top target. The defense, which is allowing 42.1 points and 541 yards per game, is led by senior linebacker Malik Jenkins (team best 66 tackles) and junior outside linebacker Kris Williams, who has a team high five sacks to go with 29 tackles.

ABOUT IOWA STATE (2-8, 1-6): The Cyclones rallied  from an early 11-point deficit to win their first Big 12 game of the season and also the first under head coach Matt Campbell, beating Kansas 31-24 last week. Freshman running back David Montgomery, taking over for reigning Big 12 Freshman of the Year Mike Warren (sprained ankle), had a monster game against the Jayhawks, rushing for 169 yards on 24 carries, and is listed as No. 1 on the depth chart this week despite leaving the game with an undisclosed injury. Junior wide receiver Allen Lazard had a career-high 10 receptions for 120 yards and a touchdown at Kansas and is now third in school history with 159 career receptions while cornerback Jomal Wiltz picked off the second pass of his Cyclones career and finished with six tackles.

1. The game pits the two youngest head coaches at Power Five conference schools in Campbell (36) and Kingsbury (37).

2. Texas Tech has been flagged for just eight penalties for a total of 34 yards over its last three games.

3. Iowa State's win at Kansas last week snapped a 10-game Big 12 losing streak and a 12-game conference road losing streak.
