Kings suspend DeMarcus Cousins after fight with coach

The Sacramento Kings have suspended star center DeMarcus Cousins indefinitely for "unprofessional behavior and conduct detrimental to the team."

Kings head coach Keith Smart benched Cousins in the second half of Friday’s 97-85 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers after the two got into a verbal altercation. Sacramento lost the game but did manage to cover as a 13.5-point road underdog.

"I won't share that right now, but it's just a conduct issue," Smart told reporters after the game. "We're trying to set a standard here, and when guys move below that standard, things are going to take place. We'll just move on to the next game, and I'll make some decisions from there."

Sacramento is scheduled to host the Portland Trail Blazers Sunday. The Sports Club, a Nevada-based odds service had the Kings pegged as 2-point home favorites before news of Cousins suspension. The Kings could also be missing star guard Tyreke Evans, who is listed as doubtful due to lingering knee issues.

Cousins leads the team in scoring with 16.6 points per game as well as rebounding (9.5 rpg) and steals (1.3 spg).

The Kings are 8-18 SU and 10-15-1 ATS this season.
