Los Angeles suddenly can't score, and that's a problem when paired with one of the WNBA's worst defenses. Our expert is taking Connecticut to win outright in his Sparks vs. Sun predictions.

The Los Angeles Sparks will look to break a four-game losing streak as they visit the Connecticut Sun tonight.

The Los Angeles offense has lost its scoring punch, and I'm taking Connecticut to win at home in my Sparks vs. Sun predictions.

Let's take a closer look at my free WNBA picks for Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Sparks vs Sun prediction

Sparks vs Sun best bet: Sun moneyline (+102)

The formerly potent Los Angeles Sparks offense has been flat since trading away Kelsey Plum, averaging just 81.0 ppg over its last five contests. The Sparks have now lost 11 of their last 13, and are second-worst in the WNBA in both points allowed (93.0 ppg) and defensive rating (112.3).

The Connecticut Sun beat Los Angeles when these teams met in May, and have some clear edges in this game. The Sun should control the paint, as the Sparks allow 42.3 ppg in the paint (third-most in the league), and Connecticut leads the WNBA in block rate (11.5%).

I'm taking the Sun to win at -110 or better.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Sun rank fourth in the league in steal rate (8.8%) and force 15.1 turnovers per game, pressure that will further disrupt the flailing Los Angeles offense.

Sparks vs Sun same-game parlay

While the Sparks have only recently struggled to score, the Sun have been horrid on offense all season long.

Connecticut is averaging a league-worst 79.2 ppg, is last in offensive rating (98.6), and has the WNBA's lowest effective field goal percentage (46.9%).

There won't be much scoring tonight.

I'm rounding out my parlay by backing Brittney Griner to grab Over 5.5 rebounds. Griner is averaging 5.8 boards per game and has collected 6+ rebounds in five of her last seven games, including her two appearances in August.

With Griner likely to play tonight and Los Angeles' deficiencies on the glass, I love her rebounding prop as a value pick for any SGP.

Sparks vs Sun player prop pick

Leila Lacan Over 4.5 assists (-125)

In a lost season for Connecticut, Leila Lacan has been a relative bright spot. The former first-round pick is averaging 11.8 points and 4.5 assists per game, and is coming off a six-assist performance against the New York Liberty on Saturday.

We've already established that the Sparks are a poor defensive team, which will mean more scoring opportunities for the Sun. Los Angeles also allows opponents to rack up 22.6 assists per game, second-most in the WNBA.

Lacan will have the lead role in exploiting these opportunities, and I'm backing her to hit her assists Over tonight at -150 or better.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
